Fire Extinguisher Auto Renewal Contracts

Agree entirely with Mark. OP doesn't have much to loose.

Just has to say he felt pressured, threats of being reported for not being up to code etc. Highly unlikely the fire company has phone records going back seven years (if at all!) and it's not like they haven't got their pound of flesh already.

Being hard nosed in business often gets results. Sometimes you just need to tell people to swivel.

Staff left company without notice

Hello, I am looking for some advices please here.

I have a employee worked with company for 8 months and recently he left company without notice. Although this really affects my business I am fine to pay his last day. The problem is he keeps the company's key and other stuff. We have contacted him a few times but no response. I am a bit concerned about the safety of my office. So my question is if I change the keys can I deduct this from his last pay? Thanks.

As Cyndy has said above, lawfully you can’t deduct costs unless your employment contract permits it. You could make a claim for costs (any extra costs arising from his leaving without notice) in the county courts, but probably a waste of time & money.

What you can practically do though (as well as obviously changing the locks) is withhold his wages pending the return of the “keys & other stuff” – assuming these are worth the effort to recover. While unlawful, a breach of contract – just as he’s breached his contract – no-one is going to be legally enforcing anything anytime soon, so it may encourage him to return the “other stuff”.

If he makes an employment tribunal claim, which he legally could, you simply settle -pay the wages; much easier for him to simply get in touch & return the stuff though, and that’s much more likely.

Marketing / SEO

Definitely wouldn't do that. Firstly you're basically picking someone out at random, there's about a 80-90% chance they'll just be crap or rip you off.
If you do happen to get someone good then I'd say SEO is pretty much a waste of time in that niche, you won't rank for anything remotely competitive even if you're budget was 15k per month. You may rank for a few low search volume keywords in a years time but I doubt you'll be getting your investment back.

Much better to spend that 1800 per month just paying bloggers, instagram influencers etc. Not too difficult to learn how to estimate what should be good value for a 'shoutout'.

Thank you! Its the kind of suggestions and advise I am after.

REGUS

Not necessarily at all. The implication there is that when Regus screws tenants it's because they didn't read the smallprint/were lazy etc. That just isn't the case in our member's case, the problem was down to a mix of faulty invoicing systems and a host of different people giving the wrong information and assurances, then trying to cover up after it. It actually took an internal investigation by Regus (after months of them not backing down and being treated like dirt and the company bringing it to the attention of their PR department) to uncover and finally admit to all the errors and coverups Regus had done.

Because of this case, we've asked around. Judging by the exodus of people from the same office location because of similar central problems, and other offices too, this is really not uncommon treatment by Regus.

Avoiding being screwed by Regus guarantees 100% that one isn't screwed by Regus again.

Selling Businesses as a Broker

Fair point! Just seemed like a rather outdated response to suggest someone/anyone can’t start a business in BS because they don’t know the first thing.
I’ve not decided if I’m doing it yet hence why I’m here, just hoped some folk would know the pros and cons of it all!
Should I decide to do it I’ll do all relevant background work required. I’ve already owned four businesses. Selling one now and spoke with several brokers. I’ve a fairly good idea of how it works.

CPD vs Small Business Funding

Afternoon all...

Looking for advice from the more experienced members here...

I work in Nuclear Decommissioning and think I need to continue my professional development. As I work via an agency, work is not secure and training must be self funded, obviously any CPD in the Engineering/Nuclear sector is not cheap.
So the crux of the question is, do I pursue CPD or use the money towards my side projects?
At the moment the career funds my side projects...

Many thanks

Alex
