Mobile card payment device that works worldwide?

We use squareup for payments in-store and online, they are an american owned company so should cover USA too. We went with them as it was only 1.75% per tap, swipe, and no monthly fees. We did however buy the small card reader at full price only to discover it on sale the week after.Might be worth a look at.
