WP Multisite or Full Hosting/Separate Domains

I have a couple of servers with relatively standard setup cPanel/Virtualmin and WHMCS - the servers specs are OK, so can handle a lot of sites..

At the moment I have about 80 sites across them both 30 mine/50 clients.

My clients (who I help startup) only have a basic need and low budget, so I offer a starter setup. My demand is due to lift a lot over the coming months so I am looking at setup and wanted to know if a WP multisite with domain mapping is a viable option to full domain packages?

The requirements of the startups, on the whole, are similar - basic themes and plugins, so, centrally managing them on a multisite makes admin sense, however, the isolation/security of separate hosting has its advantages. If I was to have a WPMS setup and a clients demand increases, I can move them to a more flexible hosting package.

For the moment, I do not need to worry about email, just websites.

IS WP multi site a viable option for multiple, low volume sites?

Yes, but only really works well if you have the same theme/plugins on each site. If not you still end up having to update each site. Unless of course you enable auto-updates.

But in general, yes wp-multisite is an easy way to manage lots of similar sites.

That would be the plan - a comprehensive range of plugins that startups could use and work well on the platform.

In some cases, they might want a specific plugin, but that would be rare (I hope).

not a fan of multisite myself, everything is different, wires get crossed, etc. if you're familiar enough with it and like it, no worries, but if you're not so familiar, you'll need to relearn a few things and might not be so happy about what's possible / not possible any more
