What are some reputable e-commerce softwares?

No monthly fees (software).

Has multiple gateways and payment processors.

Now a days there are lot of e-commerce softwares. But I am just using the same software for my Business currently. I like its all of the functionalities as well as all of the features which it provides. Well I am using it from last two to three years. The privacy mention in its really very easy.

Actinic fits the bill. Good back-end integration with MOTO, lots of choice for PSPs.
Simple to use out of the box templates for those inexperienced and almost any design can be used if you hire a designer.

I'm a big fan of Opencart. Magento needs a dedicated server, so unless you know someone to share with, it will cost you quite a bit a month!

The top on the list will be magento. As recommended above you need a dedicated server. Other alternatives are Zencart/oscommerce/cre-loaded, Joomla (Virtuemart), Prestashop....

There are loads of sites that compare various shopping carts. I suggest you have a look on the forum and online (google).

got plenty of people running on shared hosting upwards with Magento

I'd say Opencart, the more I use it the better it gets, lightweight and easy to use, very easy to mod to make it do what you want.

Really though there isn't a sinmple answer to your question, you should start by writing down all the functionality you require then compare the numerous suggestions given against your specification.

Another vote for Opencart, following someone mentioning it on here a few weeks ago and having played with it, as a light weight alternative to some of the monsters it's a very very impressive solution.

Actinic's desktop based shop software is excellent. One-off payment, no monthly fees and very easy to use after it has been set up. Does require some expertise in customising its appearance though, not the cheapest option.
