That's great. Looking at your facebook page though there seems to be very little interaction. How much have these "likes" increased your donations and/or enquiries?

I know you'll probably say it's increased awareness, but I'm not convinced that's the case if people are just going to the page, clicking "like" and then probably leaving without even reading it, as Alistair said this is how the "system" works.
Hi John
It is down to me to keep the people now I have them, obviously any status updates will be posted on their home page.I need to keep my status updates interesting . I am working on a diary of events, which will include hospital appoinments, and general every day living. I have had thumbs up and private messages of support from people I do not know, neither does any of my family. On the donations front , nothing, but I dont expect the website or facebook group to generate any, I never did ,we will have to walk ,run, jump and fly for those. One lady has offered to pay my £50 deposit for the skydive we are doing. I do not know her. Millie received a Justin Bieber canvas hand painted with her favourite picture of him. Yes I am doing a write up on that with links to his website. Same with the photographer who has offered a free photoshoot. Awareness can sometimes be put in the sub concious "Ataxia, I have heard of that, what is it again" Nick

Well - As i have gained 50 fans since yesterday using bargains method i wanted to say than-you for the extra likes. I thought to be fair to the thread i would have a look through the people who had likes my page. I clicked on 4 of the people that had likes my page unfortunately they didnt seem to use facebook at all - they had on their wall history 'likes 19 pages' liked 10 page etc so really not people who use facebook much anyway.

Im glad this was a trial, i could have though wow my likes are going up people love my page, but ultimately i feel that they are people who dont use their own page so probably arent going to interact on my page. I would say if you just like to see your fan numbers rise - success breeds success type thing to give this a go but if you expect people to interact on your fan page from this then i guess thats quite unlikely especially as a business.

Sorry bargain - I really did want to prove this thread wrong but when i clicked on the people who had likes my page they were all just liking pages and not really writing on their own walls. I would say to get 25 likes or something just to boost your likes it may be worth it as its so cheap but i wouldnt pay with the hope of gaining interaction and customers.

That says it all and as I said in previous post I think Facebook can VERY easily detect such 'fake' profiles and it is only a matter of time before they start penalising the 'sale' of them and possibly Pages that use them.

Just think back to the early days of Google and the measures they have taken to combat keyword-stuffing and link farms etc...

Facebook will not allow their results to be skewed like this forever.

I have 6 pages I have recently set up for business purposes which I need to expose to the market.

I use facebook regularly for personal use and I am beginning to get to grips with the business aspect.

This whole 'pay £5 for 25 likes' intrigues me.

I am based in Edinburgh and my business would only appeal to those in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas therefore I would want those who 'liked' my page to stay within this area.

Can this be done?

Hi Gemma.

Only fair that i should answer to this. The 50 users that have all liked your page ARE according to themselves targets for your categories.
I am not going to make any excuses.
The users that you picked at random could quite easily be new members and it is also likely that we need to re look at our vetting system.

My other suggestion is to keep an eye on your page for another couple of days and see if any of the new likes do interact or unlike etc.
If we are only talking 8% of the 50 likes are not what are required then am sure we can sort this out.

Thanks
Alistair

Hi Keith.

This is something that will be able to be done in the future but currently it would be UK.

Hi Alistair

Thanks for this, I am sure the info was somewhere on this thread but at 327 posts I did not have the time!

As much as this may work for some businesses I really need my likes initially to to geographically closer to my services.

If you do expand in the future then please let me know.

In your defence alistair its bloody hard to get people to interact on facebook pages!

I feel the only way is asking questions - netmums and the main itv, daybreak etc seem to do well but theres only so many party questions i can ask.

ah but you have to get your customers on facebook e.g. if they've bought something, chat to them and answer customer services questions in the open on Facebook and Twitter instead of via email. This encourages interaction.

We've done it and it receives interest.

Check Firebox on Facebook and Twitter too, they're well known for answering customer services questions using social media. All very chatty and friendly.

It can be extremely hard, very few pages have any sort of major interacting going on, but i was only hoping to prove that fans can be targeted and non-targeted. I know full well with regards to having them interact on your page that i have absolutely no control over this. I know you understand this but some others in this thread do not lol. I am hoping at some point that 1 of the likes i got for you says something on your wall lol.

This new venture of buying fans is also aimed towards businesses who are also selling on facebook. Maybe you could try opening a shop on facebook aswell. I personally have seen some more interaction with some Business pages where people are actually purchasing through Facebook (just a thought)

Hey, I see the point about selling on facebook but i already use my own website and ebay so dont really want to be selling all over the place - I also have alot of products and dont know if paypal would work and my website interacting with a facebook sales page on my business page! Too much for me to keep checking....

Some people have asked me questions on the facebook page but not many - still trying to do competitions, tell people about new products and ask questions to get customers and people to interact on facebook - its an ongoing thing.

Thanks for the fans.

Netmums is a good example of customer interaction but they have a huge website and its not selling anything - Just for mums to chat and chat really aswell as other useful parts of the website. They make their money advertising i guess but their facebook page shows good interaction from people everyday - but they have a hell of alot more likes.

I wonder if i had 24,000 people liking my page - Im sure i would have more interactions!

if you had 24,000 people that were actually 'interested' in your products then yes, you would have a lot more interaction going on.

It's the same as the old website visitor situation. I can get you 10,000 visitors..but non of them will be interested in buying your product, they're just figures. The same can apply to Facebook, 10,000 likes but non of them interested in your product so no interaction and limited sales.

I wonder if 24000 people liked my page but werent targetted - maybe at some point they may want my products.

Im sure if 10,000 people were sent to my website at least a few of them would be interested in my products

Gemma

probably...at some point..they might want to buy something.

But why not target a smaller and more select audience that you can virtually guarantee want to buy something? << thats what SEO and such is all about.

Sod being top of Google for generic phrases, you want people that are looking to buy.

Take a look at http://www.facebook.com/bargainmania.co.uk?sk=app_202432846464272

That is a Zencart site actually on facebook. People who purchase from it are actually buying through facebook off of the website.
Saves alot of mucking about

Ok, I should have known better. Older but definitely not the wiser.

I decided to trial Bargainmedia's Facebook fans system with the proviso the fans are targeted - UK single parents.

We've got fans from:
Barcelona
Germany
Pakistan
Illinois
Greece
Florida
...amongst other places.

Many of the fans have very few followers. Some are just kids themselves. Others' interests are mainly gaming type stuff, certainly nothing vaguely close to our target.

I'd be highly surprised if anyone got any interaction from any of the fans, with the best will in the world, "Paypal Latino", based in Florida is not interested in chatting about a single parent camping weekend in the Peak District (unlike our other fans).

If you're simply looking for numbers then fine, if you want to use FB to build a community (which we have been doing), then I'd stick to the well worn (and slightly laboursome) path of interacting with similar communities.
