Hi members,

Just a quick hello to everyone.

My name is Stuart, I help run a Private Training Academy, whom together with Government (funding) and Team Macmillan (sponsorship) are looking to help up to 2,000 business owners train in Google, SEO & Social Media.

The owner-knowledge is a missing link between the business and their Web/Marketing people being able to help them better, so I am here to network, enjoy and hopefully help those that want to know how to engage in Social Commerce and how this ties in with Google & SEO strategy. Based out of Stockport, Training the Northwest, for the pilot!

If you are a registered Charity, you get the training Free!
Have a great day
Stuart

Hi & welcome.

I'm not in your area but would be interested in hearing more about your insurance reinstatement work. Are you an approved contractor for insurance companies or their loss adjusters etc?

Does it bring in a lot of work?

What are the rates like?

Hi H.J.S
Most Insurance companies go through a third party, then onto the contractors.
Issue with that is you work to their rates and you have to have a decent team that work well together that can get in and out quickly and leave a decent job that will hold up to a guarantee.

Rates can be poor, loss adjusters can be unreasonable, policy holders expect the earth with more than 50% trying for extra work or just being plain hard work.

From the start of the job when your scoping, your looking for damage that's not related to the claim and this gets documented, so at the signing off stage no blame is cast at the contractor.

Working with Joe Public in this sector does wane ones faith in human nature...

New on here so saying hi to everybody.

My name is Robert Orrell and I run an audio visual installation company called AV AIDE from the Ribble Valley, just outside Blackburn.

We are a B2B company providing consultancy, project management, installation, service and maintenance services to Audio Visual resellers throughout the UK. I am also considering developing into residential installations.

I have slowly grown my company and reputation within the industry and am now starting to see real growth potential. Therefore, I am looking to seek advice on how to move forward as I am very keen to develop whilst I have the opportunity. I will be reading through the forum and starting my own threads to try and pick the brains of all you experts out there.

I'm very much looking forward to networking, chatting and exchanging ideas.

Rob

Ladies and Gents

My name is Phil and I am a Business Development Manager for PaymentSense. I am located in the North West.

In order to avoid sounding like a sales pitch I will just say that I work with micro, small and medium businesses to save them money on card processing and to help them obtain short term capital that may help increase the success of their business.

The reason I joined UKBF was because I have run my own business and hope to help others whilst on UKBF with any areas in which I have valuable knowledge (and that doesn't just relate to my current role).

but apart from that it's really easy. Seriously most insurers and loss adjusters go through networks, such as sage or polygon.

Loss assessors (adjusters that work for the client and not the insurer) are a good start too

Is anybody familiar with laws relating to the purchase of potassium cyanide in the uk? We are a company which deals in electronic waste materials and I personally would like to trial a process before taking it further.

My enquiry is related to precious metal extraction and NOT for anything untoward as I have been asked by one company I called ( understandably I suppose ).

Will I be required to obtain a licence given the small quantity needed is my question in the first instance.

My 1st post, so I thought I would post in the Regional section. This is not an advertising post :P

I have just opened a PC/Laptop/Console repair shop in Preston (not the town centre). I do not know anyone or any companies in the area as I am from Blackpool, so just hoping to do a bit of networking.

I have ran an online business for the past 7 years in a totally different field so I am totally new to the shopkeeper side of things. I have been working on PC's since 1997 (showing my age a bit).

Not really sure what else to post, and tried posting on other thread, but as there are too old to post on I am a bit stuck with the whole networking thing.

Hello fellow Mancs.

This is worth a poll - how many blues can actually say they were BORN in Manchester?

Hi,

Just started up in Preston but covering the whole country offering free marketing advice and low cost marketing services to small businesses. For too long, large agencies have been making money off of small businesses and I'm hoping to change that.

I offer marketing, promotion, PR, digital, social media and print services all with a clear rationale - I make sure clients understand why they are doing activity and how it is helping their business.

I also aim to provide the cheapest print around whether that's leaflets, postcards, booklets, banners or promotional items.

I hope to help UKBF members soon.

Cheers,
Wayne

Hi Gary,

I work as a marketing coordinator for a college and have done for around 5 years, previously trained as a journalist but started working in marketing straight out of uni.

I'm fortunate in that I am responsible for all areas of marketing and thus have experience of all things covered by the term - my main specialisms though, are in writing copy and digital marketing/social media.

I've just set up Blink as a side project because many people I know are being ripped off by companies offering them marketing advice and support, particularly with digital and they are being taken advantage of because they don't have the knowledge.

My aim is to give as much advice as I can for free and on the back of that, I might get some work creating some campaigns, providing some print or writing some copy but if not, then at least I have helped someone with their business.

That's my philosophy and one I want to get across to everyone I work with straight away because many people get taken for a ride with their marketing and for many it could have been prevented.

What's your business? Do you need any advice or were you just curious? :) I will try to help where I can.

THanks,
Wayne

Been asked to do a quick chat tomorrow morning on Preston FM - been asked to talk about startups and new business's etc and what is happening in the area as regards help/seminars etc.

So, should be interesting.

Anyone fancy listening to me put my foot in my mouth as I so often do, then you can find it somewhere on the internet to listen to I am told!

I'm sure a distinguished loquitur like yourself knows, but try and prepare a few answers to possible questions this evening that include your branding, URL, whatever.
It's easy to be overcome by the moment and just talk without using the PR potential.

Hello mate and welcome to the forums

Thought it worth posting as I am also based in Preston and specialise in helping small businesses to make the most of their marketing activities without paying through the nose and with real focused and targeted campaigns.

If you're wanting to network in Preston, there are many organisations already doing things that you can join - some examples are Shout Preston, Citrus Club and there are more.

If you want any advice on marketing your business (always free) or any help with any element of your marketing in particular, get in touch. PM me or post a reply here.

Best,

Wayne

Good luck Lapta, and welcome to Preston! A lovely place, but it would be best not to dispay anything tangerine!

Wayne sounds like he's a good contact (I'm not so in touch with the Preston scene at the moment).

One small but important point... you didn't get a quick response to your post... and that might be because the title did look like spam. It's amazing how the title you choose affects the response you get. If you'd said 'help with networking in Preston' - or something like that.

Hello!

Just joined up (having subscribed to BusinessZone for ages and being an occasional blogger for them). I'm an independent training consultant but unlike most training consultants, I don't spend much of my time actually training.

Instead I design training materials (most of them bite-size and licence-free) so people can run their own sessions internally keeping costs to an absolute minimum. To help, I do run train the trainer workshops from time to time.

I'm based near St Helens, and hope to share expertise with people both in the area and with other HR/Training people.

Hi Folks,

I've just posted a message to the Introductions forum, and here's my regional introduction:

I'm Andy, I run an IT Software and Services company in Blackpool. If there are any Blackpool, Preston or Lancashire based businesses that want to chat about all aspects of IT please feel free to pm me.

There's more info in the introduction forum, but I thought it would be classed as spam posting it twice :)

Take care!
