What was your first car?

This is pretty much a simple and quick one. What car did you learn to drive in and what was the first car you paid for?

Mine was a Metro Kensington (I was so embarrassed in it) and I paid for a Fiat Punto after passing my test (well a little after my test anyway).

I learned to drive in a Morris Minor 1000 with virtually no brakes and those things that popped out the side for indicators, but the first car I bought was a Mini 1000. Happy days......(it was 40 years ago though :redface

haha brilliant! Good times. Vehicles have come a long way since then, which is good.

I learnt in a Corsa (about 08 plate). My first car was a 01 Corsa. It's sitting on the drive right now...

I was over the moon that it could do 90 !!! I would want some answers these days if a vehicle could not touch 90

I learnt to drive in a daihatsu charade, went through one of those 1 man band driving schools, great guy.

In those days where I lived the waiting time for a driving test was 6 months! :O Luckily I passed first time

Insurance company made a mistake on the premium and I managed to insure it for £500 at 18. I had to sell it the next year when the premium went up to about £1500.

The bloke that bought it set it on fire by accident about 2 weeks after I sold it to him.

I think the Corsa could be one vehicle that a lot of people (esp around the late 90's early 00's) learnt to drive in. A great car for first time drivers really.

Hahaha what a great mistake! Too bad they figured it out the year after. You had a bit of a touch there. The insurance was double the car's value at least huh?

Learned to drive in a Scania artic in my dad's transport yard. Then on the road in a Transit flat bed, took my test in a Triumph Dolomite and bought a 3 Litre Capri Ghia when I passed my test.

First car I bought was a Ford Escort 1.3 MKIII chuffed to bits until it died two days after purchasing it! - Took it to a garage, turned out it only had a 1.1 engine in it! Wasn't happy one bit, took it back to the forecourt told him to give me my money back or swap the vehicle... Ended up with a Ford Orion 1.4i

A trusty Vauxhall Corsa with roll-down windows and a rather primitive version of power steering.

It got me from A to B, as they say.

Paid £300 for it in 1987, by the time I'd finished with it it had only first, third, and reverse gears, and had a rather unnerving lean to the left due to me spinning it on black ice and smacking into a 6 inch kerb

Yes I checked under the bonnet on the Orion.

Funny thing is though, majority of my cars have been cheap little run-abouts since this episode! Every car I'd had up until recently only cost £300 - £500 tops.

My cheapest car I ever bought was a Vauxhall Cavalier 1.8i off ebay costing £155.01

Turned out to be a belting car

I've also recently just bought a 1995 VW Golf 1.4L for £200 Total bargain, especially considering the old chap who owned it only did 300 miles per year in it... I've just hit 32700 in it, and I've only had it for 4 weeks.

MG 1100 - a bit like the Austin 1100 etc but with twin carbs, walnut dash etc.

After that it was a Mini Clubman 998cc. Great car.

The first I drove was a Peugeot 106 1.1, the first I bought was Vauxhall Astra G 1.6 (full extras, leather interior, pearl black), the one I loved the most so far was my Subaru Impreza 2.0 NA sedan with an STI look. I could talk about my cars all day long.

Pah. I rolled gently into the back of an impreza (one of only 300 in the world) in my old Audi coupe once - I was most unimpressed with the build quality of the Subaru - it just crumpled up like a tin, whilst my superior motor was completely unharmed

A 96 1.3 white Fiesta. The heating didnt work, the passenger window would fall down at its own leisure and was wedged in place using a pair of scissors. It had a huge fag burn in the back seat my mate was guilty of on a road trip. It was superb.

 

I passed my test early in Oct 1988, bought an old Mini Metro the following week, and wrapped it around a pole the following week..... not sure I can qualify to give a review of the Mini Metro tbh....other than there's a lot of crunching goes on before it calms down again !!

Yes I front hit a tree with around 60mph.. The car was totalled but I was completely safe and sound. Probably their backs are weak haha.

Agreed, Ive had three of em! a 96 STI V2 Jap import, an 02 WRX bug eye and an 04 STI WR1. I have floated the idea of getting another but the wife keeps telling me I'm too old for now! Plus I hate the new ones, they look rubbish.
