You're partly right. I specialise in PHP and ASP. With web applications most security holes tend to be common to all regardless of language. So I can still identify a lot of potential weaknesses from the outside, but for internal checking with a language I don't feel confident with I would refer a client to someone I know that is more knowledgeable.

What I don't do is fix the vulnerabilities. I create a report of each vulnerability, the implications, and the solution. The client can then hand this to their developer (unless they have sacked them after reading the report ).
