Our current provider doesn't support a couple features that we'd like - so I'm looking for alternative providers now.. which will support us with our "own" number (if that's possible - I know voip.co.uk can do this, as I've used them in the past, as I knew the chap that started it up - but currently they're not taking on new clients) -> Likewise, any recommendations (or chaps here) who sells numbers that I can take with me from where I go - had all our artwork produced with our current providers number on it, which we're going to loose when we leave them - I'd prefer this not to happen again, so need to take steps to prevent this from happening.

I'd prefer recommendations for an establish provider, as we have a client in need of a dialing service (aka: outbound call centre).. only reason stopping me from using an asterisk box again - flexibility on configs would be ace.

Do you mean a geographic number?

There are a fair few providers - some are even free like sipgate - but the wise thing to do is choose an ITSPA member, as they guarantee that you will never lose your number, even if the supplier disappears.

It's more so if we moved providers, rather than if they went under :) But yes, a geographic provder - not after a free service, I'd rather something stable that are flexible in terms of their configuration, etc!

I know Entanet well (peer with them in another business) but voip wise I've not heard any actual customers recommendations - which is what I'm after here!

why cant you move the number?

What feature do you need?

Outbound call centre requirements? Predictive dialler? Sequential dialler?

We are partnered with Gradwell who are an ITSPA founding member and were awarded ITSPA Best Business VoIP Provider 2008. We are also an Entanet partner, but only work with their broadband products, so I can't comment on their VoIP offerings.

The telephone numbers that we supply are yours to keep, and can be easily ported. What features are you looking?

We can do what you need. You may even be able to keep your existing number - who is the number with?

Hi chaps - thanks for the replies - I've come up with a solution for the time being. Greg - I know Gradwell very well, thanks they slipped my mind at that moment in time!

Out of interest, can you port in numbers from soho66? They don't seem to be ITSPA members and I've never heard anything about their service but they have some good/nice numbers on my area code.

Unlikely, but they they may be using a number wholesaler which we can port from - we wouldn't know until we see the actual number or an example of one.

If you want memorable numbers though, we have just added that facility for 120 area codes to our site; although not emailed everyone about it yet. Info here:

Although those memorable number up until recently were available for no extra charge on your site.

It's a shame you've gone down the route of charging silly prices for a number that has a couple of consecutive numbers.

Nice feature, although the Platinum result for Leicester (0116) is a bit odd, 01163800594, unless I'm missing something about that one the Gold & Silver options are nicer :)

soho66 number example would be 0116 326 0055 - they seem to all be assigned to 'Telephony Services Limited' according to UKphoneinfo

Um, that's not actually true.

The numbers we had on the site previously were provided to us by a wholesaler. All number wholesalers remove memorable numbers before releasing them and we used to buy them from them for our customers when they asked. It was a painful, manual process that rarely went right.

We now own our own number ranges allocated directly from Ofcom and can let our customers buy these numbers directly.

You'll still find good, ordinary numbers that our algorythm hasn't found.

Yes or new number catching software isn't quite right yet - I suspect there are a few good opportunities there too ;-)

We think that the number may be portable. but it's a funny one - the only way we'd know for sure is to request it.

I must have been very lucky to get a geographic number that was 888666 then from you :)

It was always possible - and still is - to get lucky and find good free numbers - number allocation is a bit of a black art.

I'm pleased you found one though :-)

To correct comments made by 'voipfone,' all Soho66 numbers can be ported from our service, we have porting agreements with BT, Virgin etc. We do not charge a fee to port a number from our service.

If a highly visible thread, ranked high on Google, contained an inaccuracy that a rather critical option was unavailable from your company, when a competitor company mentioned in the same thread that they were able to provide that functionality, I can understand the rationale for making clear the rather more level playing field.

I think it is rather like tidying up some loose ends as opposed to spam.

I haven't read the whole thread so sorry if I'm duplicating. You may not have to move providers if you are happy with them and just need extra facilities. If you had a hosted PBX system and then a SIP trunk to you existing provider you could stay with them, keep your existing numbers, and have the new facilities you need.

Keyline communications do this. We've just built a site for them for mobiles and field force automation, but the enquiry box has stuff about 0800 codes and loads of other telecoms stuff.... we're looking at getting an 0800 off them. You can point it at line that already has a phone and get a whisper message when a call comes in (ie 'freephone') so you know where it has come from

SOHO 66 are excellent. Cant fault there service.

Ive used them for a few months now and cant fault them.

Infact im upgrading my subscription with them this week
