Just interested to learn what your favourite App is, and the reason why?

And on another note, despite the memory you have on your smartphone - the more apps you have - the more memory you utilise.

If you went through a phase of downloading apps - but now are not using these apps - would you benefit from an app that effectively deletes them from your phone automatically based on usage demographics?

Whatsapp for the free* picture/video/texts.

*by free I mean uses data allowance instead of being billed for each one. Being on giffgaff with no data limit helps too......

Tapatalk is good too, it's what I'm using now to post on here.

Best one I ever deleted must have been Facebook. Took me too long to realise just how much time I wasted on there.

Dolphin - because a fully featured browser just makes life easier :)

No.
Access frequency isnt a good indicator of usefulness.
I dont call our solicitor very often - doesn't make him any less useful ...

I automatically uninstall unused apps, they're eating up my phone's memory. Well, most of the apps I have in my phone are photography related and games! ;)

I'm totally in love with Instapaper. It allows me to grab interesting content that I come by in my daily browsing, via Twitter etc. and save it to read later when I have the time. The interface is simple but does everything it needs to and the whole thing works seamlessly across my phone, desktop, laptop and tablet/Kindle.

I'd be interested to see info about when I last used an app but, like with the old Windows service that grouped unused icons into a folder, I'd be wary of handing over control of what stays on my phone to an automated service. Provided it let me pick and choose as part of the process, however, I'd be all for it.

It's the kind of thing I could see working better as an iTunes plugin or similar function when you plug the phone into a computer - giving you a mini-audit of the apps you use and don't use so that you can decide what, if any, cleanup is required :)

Rather than an app that deletes unused apps, I would suggest an app that with one click will close all the other apps. So e.g. Twitter and Facebook apps won't keep checking for updates; the browser closes any windows it has open, etc. That way the phone's battery (especially the BlackBerry) lasts for as long as possible.

There are actually plenty of apps like that - 'Task Killers' and embedded in battery saving-aps.

As far as the best apps go, I really love gAnalytics - it is a google analytics app (not the official one) - it is brilliant, I often check stats on my phone when I use the computer, just because it is easier. There is btw an official google app released now, I didn't find it very useful apart from the 'live' stats which gAnalytics misses. Apart from that, gAnalytics is much much better.

As far as the app to delete apps - absolutely not. I can easily do this myself with much higher reliability (just check what I don't need) and I actually don't think there is a memory problem -phones at the moment have 16gb of data (embedded) or those which don't have a memory slot, which you can get for £10-£20 if needed. I can't imagine using this much space with apps, unless I get a lot of highly graphical games, in which case just delete those and don't bother with 20mb apps.

I have a blackberry but am thinking of switching to an Iphone ... should I do it?

It depends whether the iPhone will suit your needs. As for me I love BlackBerry (I had aspired to owning one when was I first self-employed and they were the business status symbol). I also prefer the "proper" keyboard. A member of staff has an iPhone and I did try the virtual keyboard and it took ten minutes to type a message to my niece saying "Hi Linda, this is Ashley" as I found it very inaccurate when trying to type at any sort of speed.

Not that I don't like touch-screens. I have the BlackBerry 9900 which has the proper keyboard & touch-screen. Launching apps, zooming in on pictures etc., is much quicker using the touch-screen, so I do use it a lot.

If BlackBerry went down the tubes and I had to replace my handset in the future, I am not sure which make I would go for, but it would never be a touch-screen only device until they made the typing at speed more accurate.

I recently got a Samsung Galaxy Note. The screen size and quality and camera are amazing. And most apps are on iphone and android now so all is good.

Plus it comes with a stylus which is useful. Its more like a mini tablet computer than a phone. love it.

Got that on an unlimited everything plan on T-Mobile so all is great!

I actually bought a blackberry a few months back. An hour later I took it back as I found it extremely fiddly, with about a million keypresses to get things done that I could do with one keypress on a touch screen.

Different strokes for different folks I guess

People tend to use smartphones not only for gaming and social networking, but also for business needs.
I own the iPhone and the best apps for me are: Bump (users can trade contact information, photos, and files by simply “bumping” two smartphones together), Evernote ( to ensure you remember everything), Sharam (searches for the music playing at that moment somewhere), DMD (the app that makes wonderful result_box1result_box1panoramic photos) and some apps from our company's portfolio - Clean Plates, Magic Reminder and Burning Fingers.
