Prints and Cards

Would anyone have any advice regarding producing photographic prints and greeting cards to order? I have a lot of lovely photos, which I think would make a nice product range, but don't know the first thing about the printing process for these items. I would like, if it were possible, to consider only printing once an order has been received - would this only be achievable for wholesale sales or could I do it retail as well?
