Will it be very difficult? Ive added content, text and links to the site - what else can i do now?

Feedback appreciated - and also if anyone can give any tips to get the fancy dress site in for 'fancy dress' as thats not in google at all

If your content is sorted, then you just need more links.

Of course, what you want are really high quality one way contextual links from really really good authority sites... a few of those will see you on your way. Assuming those are beyond your reach as they almost certainly will be... get slinging:

If you are going to do directory submissions you really want to pay someone for that, or use an automated submitter. If you pay someone you would be looking at around $50 (USD)

Likewise for web 2 stuff, bookmarking, blog posting etc, you want to pay someone or use software like Magic Submitter ($67pm, its cheaper and better than SE Nuke).

Commenting on DO FOLLOW blogs still works contrary to what many would have you believe. This has to be done properly / manually and is expensive in terms of taken, or money paid to a decent commentor. Good comments have to pass human moderation. Auto approve cooments on spammed out sites are not worth using IMO.

The best paid blog posting system around at the moment is BuildMyRank, I have a sizeable review of that on my site and have been using it for a few months. Its effective and less spammy than some of the other methods mentioned.

Reciprocal links are still worth getting if you can arrange some... contrary to what many would have you believe.

Article directories are worth doing if you are using automation, you will need a content spinner and something like Article Demon or Article Marketing robot for that.

Out of all the above, I would start off looking at BuildMyRank, Magic Submitter and an outsourced run on directory submissions. You can get the software for directory submissions yourself, but its a pain to work with and not worth it for promoting one site.

Both BuildMyRank and Magic Submitter are time consuming, and both charge monthly, so I would not get both together, I would start with BMR, get that moving and then look at Magic afterwards, otherwise one or other will be sat idle.

Hope that helps :D

It can take a long time to get reviewed in DMOZ, 6 months to a year, or more, all depends on the category / editor, so you may get a listing yet...

You'll have more luck building a stealth bomber than getting on Dmoz.

I've had one website listed but thats on a 7 year old domain and has had pretty stable content for all of those 7 years.

Remember that it also takes time, Google may not crawl your website again for 2/3 weeks. So remember to only make small tweaks every now and again otherwise you risk shifting your google position too much and you could slide back down the pile again.

gently gently.

LOL nice line, it really does depend on the category. I have had sites listed, I have also been an editor on DMOZ. There is a ridiculous amount of spam submitted to DMOZ to wade through, and the process itself is not that efficient.

On top of that, commercial categories are almost certainly edited by people with sites in those categories, i.e. potential competitors.

Its best to submit and forget about it, its worth doing if you have a reasonable candidate for listing.

The category I looked after was hi PR with only a few other sites in it. It also got heavily scraped by other directories. One listing turned into around 300 on all the other sites scraping it and my site got PR5 off the back of it, before dropping to PR4. There are not many single links that can result in that much juice... tho other sites I had listed did not benefit in the same way.

Where you have the text under the header "home of party supplies" i would add more content. Try and add maybe 3 times as much text and see where it gets you. You can always take some of it away later when your rank is a bit higher.

And put the word party supplies in bold but dont bold too much or it makes it hard to read.

Also you have alt tags on images that say haloween , kids parties, hen nights etc. Add those words into your title of the home page. See where that takes you :|

I believe the criteria is you have to wait 20 years or so and perhaps you might get lucky :(

Hi Gemma,

There is a simple answer (that is answer - not solution!) to your problem.

By the way I have you as the middle of page 2 so there is some fighting still left to do on that page alone.

But it is mainly down to your links - there are a lot of other tweaks and changes that can be made but 70% of your problem lies here.

The solution is more links, both quantity and quality.

Take the 9th and 10th placed businesses on page one - in 10th you have Best Birthdays with 647 links and 9th Novalties Galore with 519.......you have 44 (this is all according to Yahoo Site Explorer - other tools may give different outputs)

But you need links, article directories, pr directories, directory submissions both free and paid, social seeding, guest blog posts etc etc - you need both quantity and quality - make sure your anchor text varies, do not just chase one key word it will not look natural and will not stand you in good stead moving forwards

Thanks Massey - Ive added some more content - will write something more and try to get that added ASAP - dont want to write just rubbish ill do it properly.

So just more links is whats needed for the party supplies site? Or is there anything else i can do on the website?

What about the fancy dress site?

Thanks

Just keep plugging away with the links - you will get there if you persevere and don't worry about DMOZ - I'm on page one and they didn't list me.

Whilst DMOZ isn't 100% neccesary. It's worth putting in a submission because DMOZ listed domains are given alot more authority in Google and are given a boost in rankings as a result.

Hiya
Just an observational note. I don't believe you have your main keyword phrase "Part Supplies" in a header tag i.e <H1> <H2> etc on your main page. I think this may be another beneficial SEO deciding factor over those competitors that have chosen not to do this. I don't claim to be any expert on SEO so happy for any fellow members to correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks

No, but it wouldn't be that hard to do so. Then again it wouldn't tell you that much because your forum is likely only on one server - this forum has two servers, hence it's useful to tell which is serving a given page.

Thanks - Am trying PR, blogs, forums, articles, swapping links, buying links, free link directories etc and adding lots of content and meta tags on my website.

Gemd89 - Im no expert but you have made it too easy for google to find you have been crossing palms with silver for links (by basically telling them in that post), just as a precaution i'd delete the link buying bit in your post, you just never know

What do you mean about buying links? Surely thats rubbish - ebay advertise/buy links everywhere do advertise dont they?

Anything else - think im around listing 12 at the moment for the keyword.

I obviously need a higher quality of links or just more links then? Anything else wrong with the site? Just added the fancy dress site to the party supplies site so hopefully that will bring in more links once google has indexed the site.

Ideally you should be making better use of titles. For instance your homepage is targeting party "SUPPLIES" but google also associate the word "SUPPLY" with "SUPPLIES" so the more relevant you make your title the batter you would rank.

Party supplies | childrens themed parties | Plates | Bags | Decorations

The above is your current title which could be a lot longer but i would change it to something like

Party supplies UK |Supply childrens themed parties Gifts | Party's | Plates | Bags | Decorations

You could make the title longer as well. It's just a case of tweaking and observing. I would of thought ppc would be a better option for this sort of thing but at least if your site is better seo'd and you choose ppc you wil have a good on page quality making you cost per click a bit better.:)

I was just trying to give you an idea. Maybe leave gifts out but finding words that are different but mean the same helps. eg

Parties party's party and supply supplies supplier etc. Which is why you have to tweak titles and see what works best.

I see you on page 3/position 22 for party supplies.

Another thing you could try is bolding the Party Supplies text once or twice on your home page. You need to mention it a lot more, even in your blog and anchor text it it back to your website. Use anchor text on your homepage within the content to point to other pages on your website and then do the same on these other pages to point back to the homepage and to other pages on your website.

Just looking at your blog you are not using the anchor text correctly for the benefit of ranking higher in the search engines. Use keywords in the anchor text you are trying to rank for. For instance on your latest blog post you have anchored "Fancy Dress" however you are not trying to optimise that, this should be "Fancy Dress Costumes", the keyword you are trying to rank for. This goes to all the anchor texts used in that blog post and assume in all other blog posts too.

Also I found on your blog you have no link for previous posts, so other than those in your recent posts section the search engines cannot crawl back to older posts than this.

Get the anchor text right for the keywords you want to rank, I think this is quite important.

Hi,

you submitted for DMOZ in august so you can try for listing again. I too did same for my site... check your competitors which category they are using and what all details they are supplying and try again. This might be helpful.

Of course, what you want are really high quality one way contextual links from really really good authority sites...

You wont get those, as I know pretty much every site in the sector - and they ALL charge. The others will want from about £95.00/£200 and upto £500ish for a 12 month listing, which may or not be beyond a simple weblink. I promise you will NOT get any hospitality authority link for free.

The others all want crazy money for listings, or just wont let you in for free or not at all - basically locking you out of any long-term benefits. The owners of these sites are super smart, they know what they got and the value of it. These sites have a ton of links to them and their thinking is about how much they can charge, and they likely get it too :)

If you are going to do directory submissions you really want to pay someone for that, or use an automated submitter. If you pay someone you would be looking at around $50 (USD)

How fast do you want to get deleted, or simpler, NOT listed at all. The sites will just lock these dumb submit tools out.. SEOers will get roughest treatment of all - even revenge tactics are employed to 'teach them a lesson' .

Additional to what others have said, the following observations will help

- It doesn't look like you have any analytics install.

- Sort out the canonical issue - http://www.gdpartysupplies.co.uk/ vs http://gdpartysupplies.co.uk

- Google is indexing http and the https versions of your pages

- You have duplicate pages with the same title tags across your site.

- As 'Kid Themes' has a static menu throughout your site, at least add some content to the subcategory pages.

- You have the same content on different product pages

- Be careful with the trailing slashes as they are being displayed as different pages.
