Hi Guys

I'm currently Ranking Pos 1 for a keyword on my E-commerce website which is great,

the search term is Ryobi Blower Parts

It is currently going to a product specific page and not the category page for all Blowers which is here:

https://www.sparetoolparts.co.uk/ryobi/lawn-and-garden/blower.html (I know it has little to none SEO work done on it yet)

I was wondering in your opinion, should I leave things as is and let the customer just search/browse to the required page, or shall I work on the category page SEO and de-SEO the current Pos 1 and add internal links to the Category page. so It gets the juice and then hopefully become Pos 1 instead.

What would happen if you changed the category name on the page from Ryobi Blower to Ryobi Blower Spare Parts, and do something similar with the sub categories. Then hopefully you can add specific meta title and description tags relevant to each of the pages, and a page description if you feel the need.

Then you can work on all the SEO and hopefully rank well for products and the categories.

I am no expert though.

So far so good. You don't want to lose that position, but if you do start to optimise the category page for the same term, eventually you'll see that the category page will rank higher. What you don't want is multiple pages all focusing on the same keyword (keyword cannibalization).

The good thing for you is that these are very specific search terms (long tail), so optimising for them will not be too difficult. You should be able to focus a unique keyword or variation for each sub-category and product. (Note, some people will be searching by part number, which will hardly require much optimisation, if this is visible in the product name and URL etc).

Are you monitoring these keywords on any kind of tool or using Google search console to track what people are searching for and where you rank etc?

    Hi

Thanks for the reply, I'm using Serpbot to track my top level category pages, but I haven't started tracking the sub-category pages etc, this is my next job.

I have a plugin for my store that will allow me to create a template so I can give each category page a more generic Title and H1 Tag etc

    So for Example

i could set this for the page Titles to be:

Brand Name - Category Name - Add the Text "Spare Parts UK & Ireland - Instock"

    So Making the Title

Dewalt Cordless Spare Parts UK & Ireland - Instock

The same with the H1 Tag

    It can be:
Category Name - Add the Text "Parts"

    So making the title

    Dewalt Cordless Parts

I can apply this site wide to all category pages that don't have specific SEO work done on them, but my question is Should I?

As for the original question, I can do specific SEO work on the category in question to boost over and above the template solution I mentioned

Internal linking. Point lots of internal pages to the category page with relevant anchor text.

“This is just one of the many DeWalt spares we hold in stock. To see the full range visit the Dewalt spares page”.

Then have homepage and footer links. Blog posts and articles about your stock. You can add links to your 404 pages.

And make sure your schema is spot on.

ok great, thanks for the advice I'll be sure to do some internal linking.

what is the consensus on template text being using Meta Title /Descriptons and H1 Tags.

The keywords would obviously be changing, but only changing to be like:

Ryobi Lawnmower Spare Parts, Repair Your Tool Quickly and Easily etc etc
Ryobi Line Trimmer Spare Parts Repair Your Tool Quickly and Easily etc etc
Ryobi Brush Cutter Spare Parts Repair Your Tool Quickly and Easily etc etc

    And similar for Category pages

I can get all categories the same basic SEO onpage content, then concentrate on the important ones after. My concerns is, won't Google see this as duplicate content?

Yuk. It just looks all wrong. Write in proper descriptive sentences that answer the search query.

Writing descriptions needs insight, care and good marketing skills.

    Hi

yes this is what I have planned eventually for all my major categories, but I guess to get things started and to make sure all categories have at least the words "Parts and spares" along with the brand name and type of tool it is for. It's bound to be better than nothing.

Would doing this constitute duplicate content? or should I at least make basic between each brands.

ok so for the hell of it, I've done onpage SEO work on the entire category:

And included internal links from the sub-categories to the main category.

I've also starting to track the key words:

    Ryobi Blower Parts
    Ryobi Blower Spares
    Ryobi Cordless Blower Parts
    Ryobi Petrol Blower Parts

and so on. I was going to ask Google to Re-Index the pages, but alas I used up my quota for today, doing other pages which are appearing in search at all. So I'll need to wait until tomorrow to give Google a shove to take another look at these pages.

I know the search volumes are low for these keywords, but it should be a good tester to see what can be achieved, before I go and look for good search volume keywords and try my hand at them.

I gone with the Brand Name then Category Name and followed with basic call to action and price options.

    Any input would be appreciated
