I currently run Outlook 2010, I have already set up an email account.

My problem is as follows;

If I open Outlook, and wait till its fully loaded,i.e. its done a full sweep and downloaded any new emails,

if I then try and send ( or even reply back to a new email, the following happens.

I see that the Archives Outbox is bold and has a figure [ 1 ] ( in green ) this stays and stays and stays even if I close Outlook down even if I reboot, it is still there.

If I try and send another one the same thing happens except the figure now changes to [ 2 ]
That was tried at 10:50 yesterday morning and its still there after I booted up this morning

Please help

Regards

Tony

When you press send in the email, is there a button under it that says account?

I had this recently after we changed from pop to imap (or vice versa).

No I send this email from my email account as described in my thread and it somehow transfers it self to the Archives section.

I have even done a FULL remove of Office 2010 and re-installed but no luck

Your Outgoing Server settings are probably not correct.

Try going into your Account Settings (file, Account Settings, change Account), then into the 'More Settings' option. From here, navigate to the 'Outgoing Server' tab and ensure that the top option (My outgoing server requires auth....) is chosen and you tick the box entitled "Use same settings as my incoming server".

This can work, according to your email setup. If it doesn't when you click Send/Receive, look at the bottom right and click on the Sending part to bring up details and let us know what the error says.

Thanks for your advice, I proceeded exactly as specified with exception, when it came to the end I clicked on "test"

This is the error message;

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Errors tab

Send test e-mail message: None of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your server.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thats it word for word, I hope that helps.

What puzzles me is I have been using this email account since 2008 and Office 2010 since 2011, and the internet connection has been Virginmedia all the time.

Just a thought, I can send emails from my remote email server, i.e. if I log-onto their server then access my account I can see all my emails there.

I recently had a client who was with virgin media ( adsl ) and moved to their cable fibre-optic, keeping the same @virgin.net email address. However as she wanted to move from pop3 to imap, had to enable imap from the webmail and then changed the outlook settings to reflect correctly the smstp servers and port numbers for incoming and outgoing. I am assuming you are using @virgin.net as the email address

imap settings

Pop 3

All this does is confirm that your Outlook 'sending' settings are incorrect.

Without a few more details about what type of email Address you are trying to add to Outlook, it might not be easy to advise. It's definitely the Outgoing Server issue which is affecting you by the sounds of it.

You might get some addtl info here.

Sorry I should have made it clear in the previous message.

I have a Virginmedia account

The email address that is giving me problems is IMAP /SMTP

Been there but it relates to a different kind of server with different buttons etc.

Click Next to attempt using an unencrypted connection

If I now click next >

===============================================================
I now have a new box come up "Test Account Settings"

There is now a countdown timer

Hi. Tony

If you want to take up on my offer to look into this issue for you via remote access, please send me a PM and we can hopefully sort this out

Yes I have and from what I can see is that your sent mails are being "sent" to the archive folder ( which normally should not happen ). It looks like the settings have not been configured correctly in outlook and/or on the server side of things.

I provide IT support to small business and some residential users and on many occassions I have resolved similar issues by having a look at the issue directly rather than relying on my clients providing me with error messages as sometimes there could be something else that the client has missed.

Assuming you have a virgin media email account( ie, @virgin,.net or @virginmedia.com )and through the webmail settings, IMAP is set-up, you can delete the existing account from Outlook and create a new one ensuring that the settings are set correctly and in outlook choose where you want the sent emails to be saved.

The email account that is the problem is not with Virginmedia

what is the email domain and who is hosting is? Most probably your smtp settings needs to be re-configured and you will need to contact your email host for these.

It took two hours 45 minutes on the phone to Microsoft to sort this little problem out.

It turns out that somehow the wrong profile had got itself embedded in Outlook, along with some other things, but hey ho I live to fight another day.
