Currently I have Windows 10 on my desktop and Windows 11 on my new laptop. I had intended to spend a couple of weeks in September familiarising myself with W11 before getting it put on the desktop, but life got in the way.

For years I have used classic outlook for email, having my personal (gmail) address and my work (domain) address on there. I cannot work out how to do that on W11. Is it possible to use classic outlook with W11? If not can someone suggest a useful alternative, please.

Microsoft365. I bought an ongoing subscription to Microsoft365 business some time ago. I set up a work/school account to do that (big mistake). On W10 it runs without issue. I have tried to set up the subscription on W 11 and it does not recognise the work/school account. Any suggestions?

I hate, loathe and detest One Drive. Is it possible/straightforward to remove it?

    Many thanks

Yes that's all still possible and we have many clients doing the same thing with Outlook classic on Windows 11.

If you have a Microsft 365 work account with a Business Standard or Apps for Business license all you need to do is go to https://portal.microsoft.com and click on the 'Apps' menu on the left, then click on the blue 'Install apps' button on the top right. There you can install the full Office suite which includes classic Outlook. You can also then add both email accounts to Classic Outlook (or new outlook if you prefer).

It's possible to remove OneDrive via the apps menu in your Settings of Windows 10 or 11 but it will probably come back by itself later on. Actually we think it's a great thing to have as it basically acts like an automated backup if you have it configured properly.

I am no expert but from my experience:

    1. Is it possible to use Classic Outlook on Windows 11? Yes.
    2. Microsoft 365. The subscription is only set once and then accessed via your devices.
    3. You do not have to use OneDrive.

I think you can download the Outlook app (classic) from your Microsoft Account. Do you have an oddly named account with ‘onmicrosoft’ included in the title? I won’t pretend to understand it but its presence is telling in what set up you may have.

I have never understood these work/school accounts or whatever they are called. They just seem designed to confuse (and do). My PasswordManager saves me a lot of grief- but not all.

OneDrive (or SharePoint) has its value if you want to share files between devices. SharePoint is probably the better option. If you choose to delete files on OneDrive make sure you have a reliable and useable independent backup as OneDrive might try and succeed in also deleting your local copy (how infuriating).

I have recently engaged an IT firm to make sure I have an efficient set up for my needs. I may be able to offer more In a couple of weeks.

    Good luck.

    Thanks, that's worked.
