Looking For The Unicorn

  • I appreciate this may draw a blank but after spending monies in the past on promises of helping me gain more social media exposure for www.boardroomresolve.com , I wonder if there is such a creature as a Social Media expert who is SO VERY confident in his skills as to charge on a success basis?

I think you'll struggle, as like anything undefined "success" is subjective, if you can explain tangibly & in detail what you're looking for then someone may be interested.

As an example; we carry out both posting & social media marketing for clients. This is always done with a purpose; e.g. to promote an article or service, with an action in mind, sign up for something, contact etc.

We also always build audience & demographic targeting for brands/services, plus track the results on site. Otherwise you're just using a scatter gun approach, which even if it builds likes/followers, is unlikely to lead to much in the way of engagement & cant be measured meaningfully.

In all honesty I think its your current site. As of the moment your site appears like one of those email fishing sites.

That's because it's built with Leadpages, which is designed to create pure landing pages designed to convert. It works well for certain industries.

Social media experts are, in my experience, something of a paradox. If they knew much about marketing, they wouldn't be social media experts, so their chances of helping you are slim to say the least.

The very concept of having someone do your social media for you is fundamentally flawed . Anyone who could do it successfully would be too expensive to use.

I think your business is niche (rather like mine) and so, is there likely to be many shareholders on social media who need your help?

Why not look at other (traditional) ways of promoting your business.

For example, I'm about to start going to a monthly networking lunch which is usually full of people from the legal industry, and they are more senior as well. The lunch isn't cheap, and I can't really afford it at the moment, but then I'm thinking I can't afford not to go, because there are no other networking groups around here with my ideal prospects attending.

As Ashley says, not all businesses & campaigns lend themselves to social, if I'm being honest more don't than do! The key is understanding your customer, having a clear goal & then targeting them properly.

@The Resolver, if you want to PM a social plan/spec rather than publicly posting it, feel free to drop me a line.

I do Ashley- mostly from referral. I just would like to master SM a little not just for my shareholder mediation/negotiation practice but also for other work and products associated with shareholder issues . I am in fact trying to reduce my 'hands on' work, which keeps me very busy, so as to free up more free time.

But have you done any research that shows your target market is likely to be using SM?

The most important thing for catching fish, is ensuring there is fish to catch. You can have the best net, the biggest boat, and as much dynamite as you like, but if there's no fish you're going to go home empty-handed.

Have you looked at your other ways of getting business and leveraging them more?

Like all the advice says, find what marketing you currently do that works best for your business and invest heavily in that. Why try to find a new seam of gold, when your current one could produce a lot more if you drilled deeper?

Don't fall into the belief that SM will get you a lot more clients. It may do, over time, but because of your business, that is likely to be a very long time. You're dealing with people who aren't going to just use you because they saw you last night on Twitter. You need to build up a serious reputation and trust with them before they are likely to come to you.

Why do want to do this? If it's to generate leads then it's not going to work with the current site

But I'm not sure if SM exposure is going to achieve anything useful.
