Regarding multi packs, forget the lack of bar code, or the off putting "not to be sold separately" the main problem would be the lack of the ingredients list and potentially the lack of a use by/sell by date. These would be illegal to sell.

Hi all,

First of all I'm very grateful for all the advice.

Secondly, I apologize for starting the thread and then not responding to it. Been busy to say the least.

I agree with some of the comments about corner shops being hard to make money out off, however I believe I have the determination to succeed.

3-4 years ago I was homeless due to circumstances beyond my control. I then started my own business setting up websites, doing SEO, etc etc.

I'm now investing what I have made into a corner shop as I believe that whilst it is def hard to make money out of corner shops, being run "correctly" it can be a very profitable return for me. It's all about running the business in the most efficient way as far as I am concerned, whilst obviously implementing changes which will increase the value of the business itself.

I'll give two examples not that its really important to this post but anyway...

1. Business is and has been buying 90% of its stock from Bookers by cash. Switching this to a credit card with cashback equates to £3000 cashback over the year. (Yes its not millions, though every little bit helps and this is just one example)

2. I dont have experience in this field, and wont pretend that I do. I have however had my own shop before, have experience in running a business, have studied advertising and marketing and for the last 3yrs have managed a sucessful ltd company (One man band though)

I know that if I can save an average of 10% from the price of bookers..... My return will be very substantial against the amount I am buying the business for.

The reason I asked the original question was because it was a bit of a surprise to find that I could get certain items from the supermarkets for 50%-60% less than bookers!

I've since found out whilst legal to do so, as mentioned before, the supermarkets will not let you do this. Its in their terms and conditions and they wont let it slide.

Yes you might be able to go in and buy a trolley of something, but you wouldnt be able to do it often enough and of large enough amounts to make a real difference.

I think finding the right wholesalers will be the hardest part for me, as that issue aside (If anyone wants to help out and chuck some names at me I'd be very grateful!) I have plenty of strategies and changes to implement which I'm confident will see a return on my investment in 2 years.

I went into Sainsburys today and asked them if I could order in bulk. They were categorical in informing me that this would be welcomed but to assist them, could I provide the barcodes of the items I wanted.

The order would be made, delivery would be in 5 to 7 days and there would be no advance payment required. The price charged would be the price at the point of delivery. They also informed me that they changed their prices each Wednesday. This was the Farnham branch.

This is in line with Asda except the price guarantee. If the promotion ended before the stock arrives, you would have the option of buying it at the full price but as you have not paid for it, they can hardly charge you for it can they ?
