I hate Google

I hate Google, its official. Used to love gmail, loved it, but then G began periodic security checks with it and also Youtube (ok fair enough), which they ask to verify user/passwords every month or so - ok, so got used to that and no big problems. But now they are trying to link my email account (gmail) to everything including my youtube account. I noticed something fishy when I could access my adwords, analytics, youtube and gmail with the same gmail login.

Now here lies the problem, I (like many others) have forgotten my email account login, so went to request a new password - guess what, no way to do this, instead it asks me to re-enter details I dont have, - only other option is create a new account.

Now, if I create a new account, do I lose everything eg: my Youtube account, my gmail account and all my emails :( - I bet I'm shafted now totally buggered....

I hate it when these bloody companies make people jump through these pathetic hoops :mad::mad:

you should have a secondary email account attached to your main account. failing that, if you have an adwords account you can back work from there they will verify you are who you say you are and will help you get access to your account, which by default will allow you access to all other data.

The moral of the story is to ensure you have your secondary email profile details up to date :)

I agree completely! This is very annoying!

I really like some of Google's products but I hate their login/account area. They give you no control over which products show up in your account and in what order.

^ Out of the above products/services in my account I only use 5! Now you'd think that the 'edit' link would be the solution? WRONG! It gives one option to delete the whole account but none to actually edit my products :(

PS: I've found that by continuing to login to Youtube with my username they have stopped asking me to login via my Google account.

Yeah google take the piss in regards to this sort of stuff. Why would i want my youtube account linked to my adwords and analytics. And why would i want my youtube login changed to the same as logins for all of it.

Very annoying

The edit bit's funny. It's like they are basically saying if you want to remove select info we have on you then you have no choice but to delete the lot

Because you can advertise on youtube.

I really can't see what the fuss is about. But then I don't use my personal account much, and use my apps account instead. Works well for me.

Yep, you've got to love automation - had problems with my account, simply because I had it for Adsense for so long that for some reason I was not able to sign up for any other Google service!!

Legacy issues on Google's part, apparently. Now I have to use multiple accounts and it's a pain.

Had various issues with various products that were never solved - Analytics data going stupid (x100k visitors per day), trouble setting up domain preference in Webmaster Tools due to a bug in their system.

But worst of all, absolutely no support from Google.

There used to be email contacts - now you have to go on their "support forums", which are simply filled with similar people not getting answers.

Apparently, Google are too pure and great to descend among our kind to provide any real support for their own products. And a $200 billion multinational with massive cash reserves thinks offering actual support for its own products would be pointless and expensive.

If were just leeching off Google that would be understandable - but I've made a lot of money for Google over the years. However, I'm still not worth a jot of their attention unless they're trying to sell me something.

Brand loyalty Google does not encourage.

Problem is that most of these things are free and there are a lot of people using them. I suspect there would not be enough people in the world to handle all the complaints and frustrations. Some of them may be justified but I bet 99.9% of them are not?

The sign-in process can be a bit quirky but I can live with it.

Interestingly no one has mentioned the new two stage authentication system that makes your account very secure. No doubt you'll all be whingeing about how inconvenient that is before long?

Am I the only one who thinks this is a good idea?

I've got my personal Google account and my Business Google account each have all their services linked up and it makes it so easy to switch between services.

For instance at the moment I've Youtube CMS, Adsense and analytics open in my IE browser for business bits and gmail in FF for my personal.

I've also recently changed the password on one of them with no issues.

Is this more lack of planning when creating accounts?

I've got to agree with Newcott, I've got a load of G accounts. One personal which just does my email. Then each other business or website has it's own login details and services associated with it - these all have a non gmail address as the backup address for if they need to send passwords etc.

Has worked perfectly so far.

Two stage authentication I'm sure is great and welcome, presuming it works entirely as it's supposed to. With any fully automated system, that's unlikely. :)

The entire Google accounts system is a complete joke, still even now, years later, there are serious flaws with it - I've encountered numerous issues over the past three years but fortunately my account manager at G was able to assist with the majority.

It's generally not an issue when you just have one Google account to manage everything in (the only problem you will likely experience is not being able to see client Analytic accounts as there is a long standing bug adding a user that uses Analytics/Adwords in the other account that has been added as a user).

Just when you think you are on top of it and everything is going okay with your account(s), big G go and change something causing you a massive headache rectifying a load of issues again.

It's probably the worst part of their company and trying to get help with the matter just launches you into a never ending circle of help topics and broken links and 40,000 topics from other Googlers with the same problem!

Cheers all....

I had no choice but to create a new G account - boo Google :(:(

PS - I swear on the login box, when you click to save login details to auto login next time - that it doesnt always save??? I think Google suffers from over-engineering, when simple solutions are better to keep users happy.

Note: When creating new Google account, old Youtube account still remains and is accessible - Phew!!!!

Fairly foolproof system really but nobody is forcing you to use it.

the bit i don't like about is that you don't seem to have the ability to unhook some of their products.

where this has caused me a problem is that I sometimes need to give other people access to my youtube account by giving them my password. oops, now they've got access to all my G stuff - not want I want, so I change the password when I think they've finished. then they try to do something a bit later and contact me because they can't get in, so I change it again.... and then it all happens again. very annoying - i didn't know you were going to do this and I don't want it this way, so just let me unhook the youtube account

This has come about because of all the legacy systems. Google basically purchased most of these products from third parties and have therefore had a disparate login for each system. They are now trying to transition everyone to a single login for all Google products.

I have been transitioning our customers (Google Apps Reseller) for the last few months. However Google is now automatically transitioning those remaining users who have not done it yet. Because of the numbers this will take some months.

If you do not want your accounts linked just create a Google Account for each service.

Oh no, I dont believe this. After being forced to create a new G account, just found out my G Analytics cant be accessed at all (from my new account)

Now I just set this up on my website, and now Google are forcing me to sign up again to G analytics

--------------------
Have spent 1 hour re-joining various websites, programs and lost vital emails, all bcos of Google's controlling bs. The programs, sites etc I re-joined, now have to re-assess/sign me up again, costing me time and money.:mad::redface::rolleyes:

Gee, thanks Google

If you don't like the way google does things then don't use their services.

There are alternative email services, video providers, analytics and so on.

Everyone has become so used to the FREE stuff that they forget that google is a business. They want all their services joined up sp that they can track your movement and deliver personalised content (and adverts) that will make them more money.

As to those who pass on passwords - you are breaking the T&C you agreed upon so your gripes are irrelevant.

If you don't like the login procedure then don't use Google.

Like there's SO many appealing alternatives. A junk email box is VITAL, its not a good idea to hand over your company email to everyone, due to the spam of the web -

I use Google as little as possible already, but the trouble is you get used to using certain services and its a pain to keep chopping and changing.

Again, this is about powerful companies chasing the money, unfortunately, its a shame the service drops in favour of large profits.
