How to get Facebook likes

Why do people think to convince people to like you is a good thing?
I mean if you like peanut butter - but hate jam - Could I get you to "like" a page on jam?
I mean if you dont like jam why would you like it?
What happens if something you dislike gets shoved into your face?
I have found out a way of doing it - but is it really worth it?

Its been suggested that social impact can improve rankings. Is this why people are chasing facebook likes?

It is exactly that,

Let me ask you a question.

If you liked something and visited 2 facebook pages that were identical

1 had 50 fans, the other had 50k fans

Which one would you like faster - or even like at all

The 50k one. Anyway who says it wont make a difference is lying or doesnt have a clue as this has been tested numerously several times.

Thats one of the main reasons (they might not have realised this as being a reason however - just the whole jump on band wagon type of thing) why people try and get a large number of facebook likes, twitter followers, google plus's etc.

Its partly to do with engageing with the public, but its more about when you do get someone who is interested, they are much more likely to like the page if they can see if having a large base of community

You forget, it is in the English nature to root for the underdog... :D

Facebook likes won't do a lot unless you are using Facebook and can take advantage of having your site or product (updates) advertised on all those pages that choose to like you. If you tend to use "call to arms" tactics then likes, followers, email address are your life source.

Sometimes you decide to like things because other people do. Examples:

Apple - was considered underpowered, overpriced and only bought by fanboys. Now, it's like a Boxter, everyone in Starbucks parking lot thinks they need one.

Big Bang Theory - saw 5 minutes of one episode, thought it was too OTT and too little talent to be entertaining. Someone I respect recommended it as being very funny. Gave it another watch and now am hooked.

Costa Coffee - for ages, the hazelnut latte was the 'pleather' of coffee compared to Starbucks. After someone I respect said they actually prefer it, it's grown to be an acceptable alternative rather than one step above septic runoff.

So, yes, opinions influence buying decisions. I mean why else would people buy some of the fugly clothes, mullets and other hair styles, etc ad nauseum?

Social rarely is the sole influencer that drives a purchase. Instead it's the validator. When you're considering brand x and brand y, then you speak to friends, neighbors, relatives, perk up and watch online news or mainstream media about something, that's when the balance gets tipped from one brand to another. Social validation = trust = the final straw and broke the camel's bank ;)

I recently set up a Facebook page for my company and posted a request on my personal page asking my friends and relatives to be kind enough to "like" it

Obviously my friends aren't very bright as they all "liked" my request and not the page itself :)

You are completely wrong in so many ways - but since you are new and have no idea how bizzare your comment was I will forgive you :p
Jam sales 2009
Jam is beautiful
Jam appeal

be it jam or Coca Cola - dont make a difference - Marketing affects all of it.

Go to fiverr, buy as much as you need and move on :) .. Facebook will not improve sales of jam as it is 100% offline supermarket product. Good luck

Buy an Hourlie and get it over with. It will cost you around £15 and if doesn't work it didn't. Although since your followers and likes are from real people and you have a plan on how to engage and retain them it won't be a waste of money. And remember, it worked for me! :)

To begin, you’re going to need Firefox and an extension called imacros (free). This extension allows you to duplicate mouse clicks on your system, so you don’t have to keep pressing the necessary buttons required to collect seeds. If you’re using the latest version of Firefox, you’ll be able to open iMacros by selecting the iMacros icon on your browser toolbar. Make sure you restart Firefox if you don’t see this straight away. Clicking on that icon reveals a window on the left of your screen which shows some pre-recorded action scripts.
You first want to highlight “Demo-ArchivePage” then select Edit Macro on the edit tab. You’re going to want to delete everything that’s there, and replace it with the contents of this text file. Once you’ve done that, simple save and close the window.
Now, all you need to do is click on the “Play” tab, change the Max number from 3 to 999, and then select Play (Loop). You’ll now start accumulating thousands of seeds, on autopilot.

"Gaming" social proof by buying Facebook likes does admittedly have some benefits and there may be some people you want to have as part of the community you are building that are swayed into liking your business page simply because 10,000 other people have. Ultimately though, unless your product or service has almost universal application and appeal, I believe that most businesses would be better served with a smaller, more focused community of people that have opted in themselves and find real value in interacting with your business and each other.

The problem is of course that this is not very easy to do. It's easy to spend £10 - £50 on increasing your number of likes, but this is a pretty poor substitute for doing it organically. Here's three suggestions for organically growing the number of likes for your business facebook page.

  1. By searching for groups with interests which overlap with your product or service in some meaningful way, and then subsequently promoting the page to the group, you’ll get an influx of new people liking your page.
  2. Targeted facebook advertising is a tried-and-tested way of increasing the numbers on your business page. Yes, I know that this isn't exactly organic, but at least the people who like your page are self selecting and thus more likely to actually interact with your business and the rest of the community.
  3. If you want your business page to get over the elusive 200 likes, you need to get noticed and have a powerful message. The only way of doing this that I’ve found is by being either interesting or controversial. Above all, you want people to naturally recommend your page to the people in circles of influence, and there is no substitute for the right content on your page to make this happen.

For my business and most of my clients, rent-a-crowd tactics will never result in a significant uplift in sales and ultimately that is the purpose of having a business facebook page. Number of likes can become a vanity metric and an end in itself. Whatever you decide to do, please make sure you follow a strategy that will actually deliver the business results you seek. £50 might be cheap for 1000 likes, but it's £50 wasted if it leads to no sales.

I think you should post new content/posts in your facebook page and promote it because Google clearly said in his updates that almost all the techniques are spamming only contant is the king.

Facebook likes, google plus one etc... Didn't make much difference in my rankings. Unless your market is centred around facebook then I don't think you should bother too much about it.

Other people buy likes but it is pretty obvious with those irrelevant comments.

Facebook. pahh. I have a friend who runs a tropical fish shop. He can interact with customers on all the social networks. They ask his advice on many aspects of fish keeping and they come back to him.
I am what I consider an expert on blinds but because blinds are not as exciting to people as tropical fish are and once they have been fitted chances are you never see that customer again, it becomes much more difficult to get people to visit, ask questions or even review your services or product.
Once they are fitted that's basically it. So it is like gold dust to me to actually get a customer to follow me and if I do get any sort of feedback after then I am over the moon. So yes, I chase those golden LIKES on Facebook but only because I am a Billy No Mates and they would be more than welcome if they were genuine. My facebook has only been running for a month or so by the way.

Very easy solution - you offer an incentive to your customer - is someone that they add buys blinds from you you give them a tenner :) watch them add away.

HAHA we have had the same issue! very irritating! We started either inboxing them or just posting on the feed saying you need to like the page not the post... seems to work

It sounds funny but people do not really pay much attention. To be honest I also found out that I liked a status not my business page. My daughter is managing the page for me and if it wasn't for her I would not know the difference between liking the page or a post.

Liking a post gets you updates on that post.
Liking a page subscribes you with all info.

Thats okay if you own a blog aimed at teenagers, or a site about funny stuff and videos. Its not a sustainable tactic for anyone with a real business.

Social Media appearance is the important factor now a days for better ranking in google hence it is important to get more and more likes on fb and even on other social media sites like twitter and linkedin etc..

I was also told by a SEO expert that the more likes I get on my Facebook page the better your google rankings would be but I was kind of confused because I could not get how the facebook likes are going to improve my own website's rankings. A simple explanation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

He was lying, because its easier for an SEO to get you lots of Facebook links and look like he's doing something to justify that invoice he is about to send you. Its far easier than doing any seo that works :)

It depends what your business is and which audience you want to target. You can't do that all the time, but you can do it probably more than you think.

I would stay away from any technology that says it can increase your Facebook likes. Have any of the considered having Facebook Page Gate on your site i.e a homepage to your Facebook profile that you will see if you havent clicked the 'Like' button. I have done some really good work in this field that has yielded some great results.

Have any of you considered having affiliate marketing related competitions as well as a way of increasing your amount of likes?

Do you personally use Facebook?
Do you 'like' pages with competitions?
Have you bothered to 'unlike' the page the day after the competition closes?
Do you still get their promotions in your feed as you still 'like' them?

More importantly: Have YOU bought anything as a direct result of this style of 'like' marketing on Facebook?
.......... and if so - what?

Thanks for the clarification Suzuki. Fortunately, he is not going to send me an invoice as it was an free initial consultation but still my question is where is the real value of Facebook "Likes"?
