For the mark obviously the NIKE swoosh is excellent but I think for my logo I need something unique that mayby something that incorporates an X in a creative way but is simple close to the right of the type or ontop it.

to be fair to the company they siad that they would just give me some typeface concepts and then will work on the mark to go with the type face but it still well dissapointed with the typefaces non of which look one bit custom or designed just for the purpose of the logo.

This is how the first post should have been sorry about that:

I just got back some concepts from a design company and was truly disappointed when i opened the jpeg. I had asked for a custom font desing but this is just half an hour maximum knocking together some stock fonts.

Hi Morraine.

To be fair I have seen a lot worse from designers. I am a designer, well sometimes I am and it's very hard to get the client to understand the aspects of design. A lot of logo's are only text. They don't appear to be bodged as such.

I do agree though, there is no fire in those logo's, they don't catch your eye, make you think or seem to have any direct relation to the company. You usually need one of those. Infact I can think of a few straight off the top of my head. I did one for a sports project that was only typeface. We nailed it, it could look bland, but it was a great logo. I have done a few which are only typeface. They often look different with colour and if you haven't given them much time then they can't do a lot. However, I don't understand your curcamstances and can't assume you don't know any of this.I don't really do it no more but I'm half tempted to offer you my sevices.

Gary.

Thanks pete your typeface is quite good much better than the tat concepts that were given to me. I would not had minded that much had it been one of those services which will give you a logo for £20 but this company is being paid £300. so to be honwst they haven't done any work for it. Lucky that they work on a satisfaction basis and don't get paid until I'm satisfied with there results but they have not even given me any thing to work with.
if this is the usual thhen they must not have been paid for a long time :)

You might benefit from seeing a wide range of competing designs from different designers - something you would easily get for that kind of money. I suggest you look at Design Outpost. I've used them on a number of occasions and have been happy with the results. Of course, to get good results, you need to actively participate and communicate with the designers.

for another project these desigs could have been great but the designer did not read the brief or did not understand it.
i gave him three example of logos that i like but he came back with typefaces which are clearly stock fonts of dafont.com and word or something.

In there defence and from experience people say oh i want this and that , which stops creativity most times ..

Better to let the designers just run wild with ideas and most often they come up with something that hits the mark.. And very often the Customer is glad he did as he gets something special ..

Sometimes they dont but very often its because the theme is difficult or the name is to long etc etc..

Hi there

Those initial designs from the design company were pretty average in my eyes. I think you're getting ripped off.

I dont mind putting a few rough ideas down and sending them over to you if you would like free of charge. I am hoping to go freelance as a designer soon so it'd be good practice anyway as I haven't done any logos for a while.

Thanks
Mark

Designoutpost looks interesting.

Anybody know what happens if you dont like the design ? Do we get the money back ?

I may be interested in a new logo.

After researching Designoutpost today i have decided against it. you must pay upfront and you wont get you money back if there are more than 3 design submissions for you contest.

they will just choose one by pole and try for you to work with the designer to make it better if your not happy with it.

the site is also very devoid of designers on average you will get about 3-4 designers sending designs for your contest. But you could have more if you offer a bigger prize but that is a risk.

Generally the designs are good but i haven't seen anything that will give me the confidence to use the service. Especially as some contests take over a month to complete.

i decided to use his guy http://www.jpink.co.uk
he charges £750 but i like his portfolio and has worked for some big clients. Its important that i get a strong identity for my business especially for the market sector that I'm moving into.

I just thought i would name and shame the original company as they have pissed me off even more by demanding that i pay them 50 odd quid in 10 days for the studio time to create the original concepts.

firebubbledesign ,com (they dont deserve the backlink)

stay clear of them. the guy totally did not read my brief. he wasted my time and took a week to comeup with 6 useless logos (witout the mark which was originally argreed to be povided in the concepts) a day late of which he is now demanding £54 pound in 10 days or i will get letters from his solicitor for the full amount after.

Now im going to see my manufacturer on the weekend with out any identity to give them which will set me back.

This company is not getting a penny from me.

The guy who runs it is living in a dream world. I thought £295 was a fair price to get a good logo. i wasnt going to waste my time with any of the £20 - £100 logo companies flooding google.
