Headset and Mic for PC (Skype) and Iphone?

Hi

I am looking, without success, for a wired Headset (with Mic) that can be used on a PC (for Skype) and on a Iphone!

The Skype headsets for a PC have two pins and the Iphone only have one pin - that is the problem that I don't know how to solve!!

I have seen one before that can work on both but forget the make etc.

Anyone use one for these purposes and have a recommendation??

Also, I might get a Bluetooth one because I know this could do the job and work with both (I think) but they are all pretty expensive.

I am talking about the over the head headsets not the single in ear ones.

Anyone know of a reasonable priced one?

Hey Buddy

You can use an adaptor for the iPhone. I cannot post links, but you can check out item 170940297236 or 271042215333(from HK) or similar on fleebay - should do the trick.

This will allow you to use a PC headset (split connections) on the iPhone.

I think you can also get an adaptor that does the reverse if you don't want to lug the adaptor on the iPhone around with you.

I am not aware of any that would suite, as you mentioned the the iPhone has a single jack through which both the mic and the headphones is transmitted, on a PC you either have two audio jacks or USB or Bluetooth.

Personally I think Bluetooth would be the best option, assuming you have Bluetooth on your PC, although you can pick up a cheap USB Bluetooth dongle for next to nothing.

Um.... yeah nothing like buying an adapter, just to get functionality that is including already with the iPhone *Bluetooth* :|

Also I can't see the link to the product that you are referring to but I expect it may function with inline volume control but I expect you'd loose any remote control function by using it, again not an issue with a Bluetooth solution.

Yes, well you would not lose any "remote" functionality if you were plugging the original iPhone headset into a PC using a iPhone headphone jack -> mic / audio splitter, such as item 370522034496 on fleebay.

And spending £2.50 odd is a lot less cheaper than buying a bluetooth headset that also needs to be charged regularly.

I had asked a member of staff in Maplin if you could get an adapter and they said no! They said they had never heard of one made and just advised getting a bluetooth one.

I believed him because Maplin staff are normally quite knowledgeable.

I maybe end up buying a bluetooth one but just the fact I'd probably forget to charge it to have it ready when I need it is putting me off.

(Also noticed a lot of them quote pretty crap charging rates - 3 hours charge for 6 hours standby was one I saw)

Why not check out your local Poundland or 99p store. They do wired headsets which work perfectly for Skype. Some nifty Ipad covers, CD wallets and emergency chargers in there too!

They want to be able o use the mic as well, so that wont work.

your best bet is an adapter that allows you to use an iphone/similar headset with your pc. these adapters do exist, but maplin do not sell them, probably why maplin think they do not. personally, ive never really found their staff to be very knowledgeable at all.

if you cant find one, they should be fairly easy to make, depending on how comfortable you are with such things.

You can find bluetooth headsets from around £4. Not that I'd suggest buying one that cheap as its not going to be brilliant, but I paid about £20-25 for a Plantronics M50 headset that works great, and lasts ages, up to 10 hours talk time, and 100 hours standby time.

It can also connect to two devices at the same time, so could be used on your laptop and phone.

Have since upgraded it, but for around £20'ish I was very impressed with the M50.

There are a lot of products related to that, I just do not think all of them are of the best quality. But for making just skype calls, I believe they can do the trick
