Hey Krsdav

No I don't see why there would be any implications for SEO. However, there will be implications for bad quality and poorly designed sites if searchers do use the preview feature.

Web Designers should do well marketing this feature as sites will need to look appealing more than ever.

It's definitely a handy feature which reiterates the importance of website appearance. Google certainly does keep us search marketers on our toes!

There is a decent article on the issue over at utalkmarketing.com for anyone who's interested.

Why is everybody obsessed that every little thing Google does is going to effect SEO?

Because many people on this forum are obsessed by SEO.

This will affect SEO - at the very least, it'll change the percentage of people who click through to your site.

There'll be winners and losers. And whether someone is a winner or whether they're a loser is going to be important to that person.

Lets face it how many people are really going to even notice a little icon let alone know what it does or click on it.

On top of that I think its a good idea, it will make more webmasters look at how they design their sites, those designed by Barbary Apes will see visits fall and those who make an effort to design a nice user friendly sites will win.

Bring it on - :D

Just my opinion

It seems like two opinions... two contradictory opinions.

You start by suggesting people won't click it, then you're saying it's an "opportunity".

Surely both of these things can't be true?

I imagine if people hover and decide to click something else it will have a bad effect for you. Your site will be leaving impressions and when people hover if they dont like it click elsewhere. Which is the users telling the algorithm machine they are not serving quality lowering your rank. So if your site looks crap your going to fall.

No I am suggesting that many internet users won't even notice the changes, and those that do will use it to weed out the rubbish - surely both are true Steve? :D

Harry,

You're starting by dismissing the whole premise of this thread with:

Why is everybody obsessed that every little thing Google does is going to effect SEO?

You backed up that reasoning with:

Lets face it how many people are really going to even notice a little icon let alone know what it does or click on it.

But then wrote:

those designed by Barbary Apes will see visits fall and those who make an effort to design a nice user friendly sites will win.

You really don't see the inconsitency?

Well I suspect it will take a time for the general public to get it.

It probably will have a fairly major impact on CTR for those that use it.

Fortunately all those crappy sites I design look great in preview.:|:)

Be far more important to get the message across in preview mode so all those tiny text site will sufer.IMHO

Well I hardly noticed the little icon until it was mentioned here. It will take a while to kick in with most of the google users but its such a small preview, it's not really going to give that much away, the only worry is that its showing cached pages from what i can see, not pages that are updated that day
