My point was that people naturally gravitate to German cars because of reliability, but there is no evidence that they are the most reliable.

Yep we do very nicely out of the VW groups famed reliability.:)

Buy Ford for reliability comfort and cheap running ,The Dagenham Dustbin has turned into you're fairy godmother.;)

Don't ya just love statistics you can count on them.

So you quoted stats and THEN found a supporting article?
Im surprised the costs quoted aren't higher to be honest, for all marques. Modern cars are pretty reliable but parts and labour costs are reasonably high these days when they do go wrong.

As I said, I have seen many articles that say the same thing. Jap cars manufacturers have lead the leaderboard for reliability for years.

I'm not only interested in Jap cars as a result, but it's still a fact.

It 'helps' prevent any major problems. You can properly maintain cars all you like, the most reliable car will still have less problems.

Proper maintenance won't help a jot if a piston cracks due to a tiny flaw when it was cast.

Seems like you know best.
I will struggle along with my own taste in cars for now.

Well you keep confusing your own taste with fact!

Tell me you like your porsche and I cannot possibly disagree.

But tell me German cars are more relaible than Jap, or that maintenance can remove possibilty of breakdown, and you are factually wrong.

I don't want you to be worng - so why don't you just stop it?

I don't think I have said they are more reliable? One of my cars is a marque famed for being unreliable but no trouble so far.
A man quoting stats that he is making up and post statement searches for something to use as backup cannot be relied upon as a factual source.
All in all I don't think any marque or nation suffers massive unreliability these days.

Such blatant link placement twice in 5 minutes

Its a social service.;)

Who knows better about reliability than the people who sell owners the parts they need to fix em.

Although Jap cars are in fact the most reliable in theory, wait till you have to buy a few bits for them to find there true running costs.

And as said nearly all modern cars are incredibly reliable so the difference between the top jap and a Jag in minute.

This statement does not cover the skateboard brigade as most are not capable of doing one lap of the M25.;)

Skateboards with wheels or without?

Of course it could be that old VWs etc can still be repaired long after old Nissans and Mazdas are dead?

There are plenty of website you can on to actually get certain parts of your body enlarged, then you won't have to quibble about who has/what is the fastest/best car :p

I didn't quote stats, I said that the top of the reliability charts is always held by the main jap manufacturers which I knew to be true.

I only posted the link as you asked me for the evidence - see the thanks I get :p

You worry about yourself and your girlfriend!! It is ridiculous when people say that. It winds me up a treat!! It is as general as saying that oranges are orange because bananas are yellow. And I would post a picture if it wouldn't get me banned/arrested :D

Hmmm not really, you said 'the stats say this' without having any and then looked for some.
It's not something I give a great deal of thought to I guess, perhaps I've just been lucky that reliability had never been a problem with any cars I have had - not even Alfas.
I suppose it also depends what is and isn't counted as reliability. The immediate issue I think of is 'does the car start' but I'd imagine many surveys count issues which don't stop the car driving.
I have no strong feelings regarding defending any one nations reliability record.
I suppose what we have learned here is that when you buy your Nissan you will be able to go nice and fast, won't break down and as you will be inside you won't have to look at it!
If you see me on the side of the road in a cloud of steam don't forget to wave!

Why do you believe I hadn't already seen the stats? I had - thats how I knew what they were.

If I already know the stats exist then surely I don't have to have a copy in front of me before posting.

I'm with you and Earl anyway, the difference is slim from best to worse, and certainly not as important as choosing the car you simply happen to like.

My girlfriends dad is a multi millionaire (Branson, you may have heard of him), building her a house and just bought her a Yatch as well for cruising the Med'. I'm so jealous I had to ditch her and stick with the wife. Was I right?

There we go, back on thread.
