I'd recommend Fasthosts... the're great! Having said that, I normally also check the prices at Godaddy and 123reg and go with whoever the cheapest is if the price is significantly less than Fasthosts.

It really depends on what you need in my opinion.
Do you only need a domain name (no hosting), then go with GoDaddy.com as DaveBlack mentioned. Just search for "godaddy domain name coupon" on Google and you will be able to get the first year for about £1-3.

If you need more, e.g. website hosting, then it really depends what you need for your website. If it's just a small website for a shop which mainly works offline, then you can for example check out one.com

However, if you need more, you might need to look into virtual servers, dedicated servers, etc...

I used to use 1&1 to deal with all my domains, but found they had a problem last year which took them way too long to fix. I moved them all to 123Reg and find they are pretty well organised, and I still use them.

I have used Godaddy lately, because I was working on something which was to be hosted in the US, and found their support department very eager to help with some not-normal technical issues.

At the end of the day, if it's just for Domain registration, use any one of the big names, and just ensure you go for decent hosting - it's way more important.

I agree - don't use 1and1!!! The most backward and problematic host and domain registrar!

Personally I have used Namesco, GoDaddy, Heart Internet, and 123-Reg all without any problems.

Any reputable registrar will be fine, with the US ones typically cheaper for ICANN domains - e.g. com, and a UK registrar arguably better for Nominet - e.g. co.uk domains.

If you're also looking for hosting then some hosts also provide a free domain name with your hosting, and it can be easier to manage both in one place, so that's also something to consider if you require hosting as well.

You might also want to register both the .com and .co.uk if you can as well, depending on your business (e.g. less relevant for a local business, but more so for national/international). It can be a good idea to protect your business name given the low cost of domains.

200Host offers domain registration, but I would recommend that you keep your domains and hosting separate.

Simply put, if you don't like the service, and your domain is registered somewhere else you can cancel and move hosts. If the hosting company has your domain, then you have to get them to release it before you can move.

Go for Namecheap, they are very professional and giving away many valuable discounts.

The support and overall team are friendly and they make sure everyone is well looked after. Stay away from 1&1 that's who we left. Their support is pathetic and servers are overloaded.

Make sure you get your domain separately from any hosting package. Too many places offer what looks to be a good registration deal ... but you are locked in to their hosting.

I had about 30 domains with GoDaddy at some point in last 6 years as their Name Servers are very fast and their DNS manager is quite easy to help you manage your domains. They also allow off-site DNS hosting which is useful. Plus you can find plenty of discount codes to buy domains for cheap.

I have used 1&1 also but found them slow and their interface is very cumbersome as well.

You do realise that Google knows everything, GoDaddy is known as a spam host/registrar so if you host with them and have a domain you have a lot more work to do. The enterprise companies use ones like Tucows and Melbourne, then there is everything in between. Netsol are respected but at the same time they will rip you off. You can look at this to give you an idea http://trends.builtwith.com/ns - GoDaddy are not even a level one ssl provider. If you want to be serious about your site get a serious registrar, it's all connected.

If you are a new member, then you can find domains for as low as $1 for the first year, but the renewal rates will vary. I have not seen much different in the renewal rates so all are same in that aspect. I prefer whoever is cheaper because it does not matter more like hosting and we should be more careful for hosting account than domain.

A thread like this can be very useful to keep up to speed with which companies are failing to deliver on the basis of earlier recommendations. I have never had an issue with 1&1 for instance, whilst others in earlier comments have had terrible problems.

By keeping older threads alive, you encourage people to seek out answers for themselves, rather than continually posting the same requests over and over again.
