Hey all,

Wonder if you can help.

We have a client who wants to pay by card, and i thought of potentially getting an izettle reader and going out to her, but was wondering what other people use as be easier if we could do it over the phone so easier for her and us.

Her bill is about £300 a month, so not worth investing a huge amount in this, but also dont want to get stung by high fees.

Thanks,

You could have a Virtual Terminal that can be accessed via a browser for performing what is known as MOTO (Mail Order/Telephone Order) card payment processing.

The rates you can pay will vary depending on whether you choose a PAYG quick sign up process on higher rates vs full merchant services with monthly costs but lower rates. Bear in mind the former tend to charge the same % rates for both Credit and Debit cards whereas with the latter the Debit card rates can be much lower than the Credit card rates.

Whilst you have just one client (presumably) at present asking to pay by card perhaps once you had introduced the service others would prefer to use it for the convenience so even if you start with a PAYG with limited card turnover it would be worth looking at full merchant services once you get one or two more clients needing the same.

If its for occasional use & not something you need to use frequently when a customer is present (sounds like this is for a monthly invoice for you), then you could create a PayPal invoice. This can be integrated with Excel & other systems via APIs, they charge 3.4% to start with plus 20p per transaction: https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/email-invoice
