Yes I agree with the above, If you really want to learn the software you would be best to get some classroom based learning with a training provider. Failing that do some online learning for it.

In my experience with students Its the practical part of the learning that will stay with you, not the dry text.

However, different people learn differently and if you are adament on getting some good books on the subject, i will have a look around the office on monday and see if anything comes up.

Okay, I agree - if I were planning to be a user of Sharepoint. However, I only need to understand Sharepoint at a conceptual level - because it forms part of a new solution that my company will be selling. This is why I thought a book would be the best approach.

justin I have been a sharepoint consultant since it's beta in 2000.
I have wrote a number of add-ins, solutions and apps for 2001, 2003 and MOSS (current version).

If you could perhaps pm me some more details I will tell you what conceptsd you need to know e.g. expiration, workflow, features, api etc

Best thing to do in my opinion is to go straight over to microsoft.com and download it and install it on your pc and start playing with its features... then use google for help with any customisation or templates etc you wish to do. However, if you want to start creating addons to go into Sharepoint you will need to learn how to program in .net first...
