Calendar: Outlook & iPhone sync

Hi all

I run Microsoft Outlook on my desktop PC and want to be able to auto sync just the calendar with my iPhone...but I'm not particularly techy at all!!

What's the best method?

To be honest it all baffles me!

I don't mind spending a few quid on an app or something but wouldn't want to she'll out a monthly subscription if it can be helped.

Why would you need to spend money? Use Google apps (free version) and you get push email, calendar, apps etc!

Deffinitley Google Apps hun! But you would need the subscription version at £50 per year....but to be fair, less than a £1 a week! And its Fab!

Lauren asked me to poke my head in to clarify this question:

The free version of Google Apps does NOT sync with Outlook. For that functionality you need to buy "google apps for business".

This is confirmed here: http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/outlook_sync.html

The free version can only allow Outloook to work as an email client, it would not sync your calendar or contacts (and google tasks isn't compatible with Outlook tasks).

As Lauren mentioned, for a nominal sum that is less than a pound a week you can get exactly what you need.

Sorry, I refer to mobile, not Outlook, However, emails will sync, but it appears calendar will not.

Also, I was an Outlook user and ditched it for web based (which I always avoided, before) and mobile!

That being said I wholeheartedly agree that, certainly my preference, you should do away with Outlook at the earliest opportunity.

Ok so just to clarify: the best way to sync my desktop Outlook calendar with my personal iphone is to use Google Apps for Business?

I dont need it to sync contacts and/or emails as I already do these to my work Blackberry but it's easier to have the calendar on my personal phone.

What kind of iPhone do you have?

If it's an iPhone 4 you could possibly do it through "iCloud" but I'm not familiar with the setup of that. If you only need it for that specific requirement and won't use any of the other (fantastic!) functions of Google Apps it would seem to be an extra layer of complexity that you could do without.

It would definitely do what you need it to though.

Only a 3GS but will upgrade at the next release.

Might just hold on then, don't want to frazzle my brain as i'm not exactly up to speed with all of this lark anyway!!
