Business Number

I am wanting a business number that will come through to my mobile

Can anyone with experience give me some options of what I can do.

My regular number will also be on the mobile also so the business number is extra.

I'm on 02 not sure if they have any options?

You can use any one of a number of providers who will set you up with an 0845, 0800 etc. or a geographic number (0207, 01272 etc.) and then you can have this set to forward all calls to any other number you like.

I setup a number with uk2numbers and that worked well, but there are lots of other providers.

I went for an 0845 and it cost me about £10 to setup with a re-direct to my mobile and then I added unlimited diversion for £80 a year so I could re-direct it to other numbers when needed.

With the 0845 and 0800 you do pay for inbound calls though and this is 25p per minute unless you go with their £9.95 a month package and then it's 5p.

I use Numbergroup.

It was free originally now I pay about a tenner a month but thats for landlines.

There's a few things to consider such as the cost of the phone number but then also the tariff of charges for the diverted number to your mobile. Some providers do mobile bundle minutes. Also look for per second billing instead of a minimum charge as that could make a difference to overall cost

Many providers out there. Be sure you are able to change the destination easily without having to pay a hefty fine.

Easy to do with a voip service. I'm with Voipfone and have one of my numbers diverted to mobile (divert charge is 10p a minute). I can just login and change the divert any time and it takes effect instantly (no charge involved). Having to pay to change the divert sounds like a rip off to me.

Having looked into this very issue last month, I chose Ikea Mobile so that I could choose a number I want which I have now ported to a SIM only deal on a phone I already had. You could do the same with a new contract and port the number across if you want. You just lose £10 to Ikea but small potatoes to choose a number you want. My mobile ends with 000.

As for forwarding, there are several methods. In the end I also went with Voipfone but considered Soho66 and some others. In the end, it was the customer service which swung it over a marginally cheaper cost elsewhere.

If I could have chosen the number I wanted and was prepared to be stuck with Orange (pocket phone) or Vodafone (one net express) then you end up with a landline on a mobile with no forwarding costs.

Stand alone landlines on a SIM card often charge for both inward and outward minutes, very similar to the very start of mobiles in the UK (and USA) when they looked to earn from both sides of the coin. I didn't like this approach though I will consider the Orange and Vodafone alternatives going forward.

Are you after geographic numbers (beginning with 01 and 02) or non-geographic numbers (0800, 0844, etc.)?

Both have a use in the business world - if you want to promote your business in a certain area or group of areas then go for a geo number (in your case it's known as a UK Virtual number), but if you want a national feel to the business a non-geo is for you.

You might want to take a look at www.voicehost.co.uk - numbers just £2 per month and you can divert to one, or many numbers. Their system is very flexible and they have a user control panel where you can make changes as and when required free of charge.

o2 no longer provide this service. I use Vodafone which provides a geographical number from the code which suits you. Costs me £30 p/month. It has a usefull feature that you can track any calls missed whilst engaged on a call.

In brackets are the respective offerings where you can have a virtual UK 01,02 Landline Number 'mapping' directly onto your mobile.
