Are you a Christian?

We have a right one here guys.

I am a christian. There are only two groups. Christians and everyone else.
"I am a Muslim. There are only two groups. Muslims and everyone else.
I am a Buddhist. There are only two groups. Buddhists and everyone else.
I am a Hindu. There are only two groups. Hindus and everyone else.
I am a JW. There are only two groups. JWs and everyone else.
I am a Sikh. There are only two groups. Sikhs and everyone else.
I am a Jew. There are only two groups. Jews and everyone else.
I am a [insert any other religion]. There are only two groups. [Insert] and everyone else."

Get it? You are not unique. You are in fact just like all the others, blindly and unquestioningly faithful. Good luck to you but please do not be so conceited as to think that your religion is the only one. There are hundreds of them all followed religiously by people like yourself.

Me? I am an atheist. There are many groups. Atheists, christians, muslims, buddhists, hindus, sikhs, yada yada yada and everyone else. According to Wikipedia about 30 percent of the world's population are christian. I very much doubt that it is as many as that but even if it is that makes 70% who would tell you that they know better. Sorry, you are outvoted.

We speak different languages. I am a Christian. Athiesm is a religion along with all other cults and beliefs.

Who do i congregate with and talk about a leader? Who do i congregate with and sit and rub my knees over the thought of destruction (that's the cults like the jehoviz).

You're not making sense.

I'm starting to think this guy is worse than DCE haha.

What a bigot...

Look back over your own posts.
You have consistently said there are only Atheists and the deluded.
He just happens to say it nicer than you do.

Surely that is a bigoted statement..........and................who makes bigoted statements?

I reckon it's one of those words that ought to be put in the word filter.

Yes it is a bigoted statement. Did you expect me to give you a serious answer when you are being rude suggesting i'm a bigot.

You bigot.

I doubt you even know what a Christian is.

I watched a good film the other day with Anthony Hopkins in it playing a seasoned exorcist for the Vatican. Film was called The Rite. It was an old fashioned good versus evil with a heavy pro-religion slant but good fun despite that, or maybe because of it

In the film Anthony Hopkins character makes a statement when talking about atheists; saying that "atheists always needed answers for everything".

Atheists for the most part accept that we do not know all of the answers, and of those things we think we know, its mostly our best interpretation at this moment in time.

We do not need a catch-all deity to plug the knowledge gaps, and we do not need to turn to the latest interpretation of an ancient heavily edited book in the search for answers.

There was a big survey done that actually proved atheists know more about christianity than christians.

Its a bit of a facetious remark to question his understanding of his own faith, but no less than the ignorant remarks he makes about atheists being some sort of organised group like a cult or religion.

But those pesky religious sorts do like to put everything into neat boxes :p

Who did the survey? The Society of Atheists :D

There's another survey in the USA that shows that atheists have a higher proportion of lower educated people than Christians do..............but like most "facts" there's a survey somewhere that "proves" it.

Here you go folks. I look forward to the denials.

Studies comparing religious belief and I.Q
In 2008, intelligence researcher Helmuth Nyborg examined whether IQ relates to denomination and income, using representative data from the National Longitudinal Study of Youth, which includes intelligence tests on a representative selection of white American youth, where they have also replied to questions about religious belief.

His results, published in the scientific journal Intelligence demonstrated that on average, Atheists scored 1.95 IQ points higher than Agnostics, 3.82 points higher than Liberal persuasions, and 5.89 IQ points higher than Dogmatic persuasions. "I'm not saying that believing in God makes you dumber. My hypothesis is that people with a low intelligence are more easily drawn toward religions, which give answers that are certain, while people with a high intelligence are more skeptical," says the professor.

More misinformation; what it actually says is Atheists know more about other world religions than Christians. Which is hardly surprising as most Christians are not interested in any religion other than their own. Still never mind.

I'd just like to say that Hedgie, Stockdam and mobyme, this is getting really really embarrassing for you now.

We provide statistics and facts, you make up statistics and tell us are facts are wrong

You will be waiting a long time or at least until you find a way to make white evangelicals move into your camp or turn 7.3 into 6.2. You tried a cheap shot and it bit you in the arse. Tough

What the hell are you talking about? christians as a whole are 6.2, evangelicals are a subset of christians which happen to be 7.3

This is bordering on retarded, you literally don't understand basic graphs.

I couldn't be bothered with your claptrap......grow up.

Here's a statement for you to mull over......

"Indeed, if the survey holds true, new theists are coming from higher socio-economic groups and are better educated than new atheists."

http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/atheism/29654-atheism-conversion-and-class.html

However the most valid statement is:

"In short, I think it's nearly impossible - and often even dangerous - to draw absolute conclusions from any studies that examine the demographics of religious belief."

Carry on with your pointless arguments.......if you want to compare your qualifications with mine then fell free. Statistics can tell you anything........my qualifications are facts and aren't statistics.

I think you need to be careful before using words such as "retarded".

The figures show that White Evangelicals and Mormons know more than atheists in a survey of 12 questions about the Bible and Christianity.

I take it you did pie charts in school?

No, what you provide is 'surveys' or 'studies' which as we all know are complete rubbish. Just like saying Persil is better than Daz because our survey said so.

My claptrap?

How about instead of linking to religious websites you read facts like this;

Yeah all those scientists have no idea what they're talking about!

It's based on stupid things like IQ tests and other intelligence tests, so essentially it's based on facts.

What do you have to counter it? Links to religious sites, seriously it's embarrassing the way you live your life ignoring facts and claiming they're not true. Of course, everyone in academia knows nothing, your right and they're wrong.

I think you guys really need to understand confirmation bias, because the things your ignoring and claiming have no relevance... They are called facts.

I'm sure your ignorance serves you well in business.

Ha ha, those links are hilarious. The surveys are of a few hundred people, not exactly representative. The science websites are as biased as the religious ones and as for the Telegraph, well if you want to believe what the press tells you then so be it.

You cannot base 'facts' on surveys of a few hundred people. It is only a snapshot of that particular group and not on the populous as a whole.

Evangelicals are the ones that study the Bible trying to prove Biblical facts; Atheists are the ones that study the Bible trying to prove Biblical falsehoods.

Evangelicals 1 - Atheists 0

Instead you went for the sensationalist "Atheists understand Christianity better than Christians" without saying it was an American survey held over the telephone.which over sampled Atheists due to the relative size of the group.

In other words it's about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

You don't perchance write headlines for the Sun as a day job do you?

For a "group" who claim to be more intelligent then there's a faction who like to resort to using words like retard, moron and dickhead. Sorry but I will not reply to anyone who thinks that this is acceptable.

Wow, how about you read below and this time don't try to brush aside the facts;

What you just said was, science is rubbish, the tabloids lie and the surveys wern't big enough, but no reputable surveys that prove your point? No impartial people that prove your point, none. And the worst thing is you can't even see what your'e saying

The only way you know how to argue your weak case is to ignore the facts and point out insignificance's and go on tangents, seriously - look up Confirmation Bias

The first link was 6,825 people

The second was the one you thought was only "a few hundred" and this is where it gets reeeaallllyyy embarrassing 30 different studies (some of which had a few hundred) but that had a combined total of .... 11,396

The third that you so intelligently brushed aside because it was "the press" was a survey done by a reputable professor of psychology, who conducted a survey over 137 Countries

The fifth is a study conducted by a university.

I don't want to make a complaint. I have only ever reported one post on here. I do not object to that word, and I do not know who used it and really do not mind.

Dick is a shortened name for Richard as far as I am concerned!

My point is the rules being inconsistant.

You could also read the, ummm I don't know... the Facts? But no, once again ignore the facts and links to pick me up on my choice of words. You must do great in real-world arguments

The fact that those words offend you doesn't represent my "lack of intelligence" they show that you're too sensitive. This is a forum for adults, if those words aren't allowed it's an embarrassment to this forum.

For the record I am not an Evangelist; I find them as distasteful as the other crew.
