To answer the OP question - I make a living online. And I run a (non-profit) forum with many others who specialise in running purely online businesses and who share what they've learnt running such businesses.
Over the last decade I've bought into websites making money in a whole variety of ways - from affiliate programs, contextual advertising, lead generation, membership, domaining, text link sales, electronic product delivery, brokerages and several others. My current portfolio of sites is largely self-running, and I consider myself semi-retired. I'm 45.
Internet marketers would like you to believe that the only way to make money online is to be a marketer (I wonder why they like you to think that). Come up with one good domaining idea - like the guy who made millions years from redirecting .co typos to .com - and you'll make your fortune. Or buy a website that's already been marketed by someone who's getting a commission (like a vendor site promoted by affiliates).
I've never read a marketing manual or guide ever, I don't understand HTML and CSS and all that complicated stuff. But I can read a balance sheet, am good at spotting scams and had a bit of money to acquire my businesses rather than build them.
If I could do it ...capitalise on your strengths and you could do it too. Becoming an expert marketer is also one good way.
