Portugal

Anyone living/selling or retired over there? Looking for something to do or get involved in?

Portugal is the obvious next move for me, close to home, decent weather, good golf and I need an excuse to get over there. I'm looking at taking our UK market leading product in to Portugal, having been granted exclusivity over there by our manufacturer.

I'm looking for someone who would be up for visiting potential dental customers. All deliveries, invoicing etc would be dealt with from our current office staff over here unless there was a business case for establishing a company over there.

At this point I want to head over and meet with potential partners and take it from there. Whether it's done on a commission basis or taking a % in a Portuguese company from the off are all details to be discussed. Either way, I'm not after any sort of investment or for anyone to part with anything other than their time in helping me on the ground.

Would be great if you had some ideas.

Cheers,
Alex

If I've read correctly, you are looking for srlf-employed/commission agents to sell in Portugal?

First you need to look at local laws and culture around self employment. It's OK in the UK, subject to certain test criteria - may be very different over there!

In the UK, you can broadly put commission agents into 2 categories

1. Professionals, who know their worth and will need a compelling reason - and constant motivation to favour your product over the numerous offered they will have.

2. Chancers and hopes, who may turn out OK if properly incentives, but most will fizzle out as soon as they encounter hurdles.

But again, local intel is critical

No, not necessarily. If I can fly over and meet with a few prospective business partners then incorporating a business in Portugal from the start with our local guy having a decent stake would probably be the way to do it. The business runs itself over here and I have other interests that take up some of my time so the idea is to replicate it's success elsewhere.

I don't want commission only/pyramid/bullshit situations, I want someone who can be invested in it with a proven track record who will look at our business in the UK and see the potential.
