New business - logo help please and opportunity.

Hello,
I am starting a business called Viva Moves. We provide training in Music and Movement for staff working with parents and toddlers. Alongside this we will provide training to those working with older people or people with disabilities in how to provide seated and gentle exercise groups. We also hope to have a website selling the products that people may want to use in the classes they provide eg play parachutes, balls, scarves etc. Also merchandise that clients attending the classes might want eg t-shirts, bags etc.
I only have a very small amount of money to set up but have 11 years of experience in providing the above sessions....time to more into training staff now.
I would love to have a really strong logo/brand. Something that older people would like to have on t-shirts/bags when they go to their classes but also something that parents and kids could relate to too.
With an ageing population I am sure that this business has a big future.
So... basically
1) I am looking for a strong logo. I could only pay about £50 but if someone were feeling really generous it would be great to have it for free!!
2) If anyone wants to join me on this venture....
I have already found a great person via this forum who is helping me with another of my ideas that I had a while ago to fingers crossed that I have as much luck this time.

I've never had a problem with them and many of my clients have used them being very happy with them. It's cheap and cheerful but does the job.

This type of site encourages 'sweat-shop' labour; several dozen designers (none usually UK-based) submitting "designs" to the "logo company" at $0.25 each....

I can't meet your budget I'm afraid but it's best to go with a professional and experienced designer who has a strong portfolio - and who is recommended by folk here.

Yeah I used worth1000 a few years ago before I knew what 'spec work' was. Was real happy with the result and then 3 months later had some indian guy email me saying the website still hadn't paid him his $30..... It may have been a scam on his part rather than worth1000's.

I think the business idea is great, I know someone that recently won an award but her focus is more on teaching musical skills and using music as therapy for the elderly and disabled people.

Why do you want to set up as a CIC, is your aim to make it a not for profit organisation? http://www.cicregulator.gov.uk/faq.shtml

I can see the benefits this idea will have to the community if pitched and presented well. CIC, I guess will give it a social enterprise identity.

C.I.Cs are ok! do make sure it fits entirely with what you are doing and remember that it may involve a trip to the solicitors to have all of your forms witnessed but don't pay over the odds for that service..paid £20 for one of our solicitors and i think that was a tad over priced for 10 minutes work..they just jointly sign the documents that you can get..have a word with Business Link about things like that! usually helpful.

I have been thinking of setting up as a CIC as I have run a charity in the past and I am used to fundraising/applying for grants and not used to the idea of actually asking people for money for the serive they receive! New concept for me! Need to build up my self-esteem!

There was an excellent broadcast on radio 4 the other week about Design in the UK - the direct correlation between excellent design and successful businesses. There's a definite correlation! It's the broken windows effect!

hear hear, The broken window effect eh, I haven't thought of it in those terms but can see where you're coming from. Sign me up for the crusade too, to many designers ahem... are like the painter who doesn't rubdown between coats, it ain't a proper job.
