Looking to interview wholesale merchants

Hey everyone đź‘‹

I design and build themes for the official Shopify Theme Store, and I’m currently working on a new one made just for wholesalers and B2B merchants.

To make sure I’m building something that actually helps, I’d love to hear from a few wholesalers that have their own online stores: what’s working, what’s frustrating, and what would make your store run smoother. Every little detail matters.

I know your time is valuable, so I’d like to give back in return. I’ll happily help out with a small design or dev task for free. Whether that’s fixing a bug, adding a feature, designing a banner, or giving your site a quick audit with actionable tips.

Or if you’d rather chat, I’d be happy to set up a quick call.

Welcome.

How would a theme help or hinder someone, outside of its general presntation and speed?

The issue would lay in the features and useability of the platform, wouldn't it?

Do wholesalers use shopify?

As a shopify employee surely you should be asking the question on your support forums.

Hi Paul,
A theme can include any standalone features that are possible to achieve in the front-end.
Themes come with their own settings, which are not limited to design only.

Using wholesale as an example, you might only allow people to place orders if they've met the order minimum of ÂŁ500, while you offer many products at a price below that threshold. If the cart value isn't high enough, the Checkout button might be disabled.

While you can use Shopify on any plan for wholesale purposes, there are more dedicated features on Shopify Plus.

Yes, they do 🙂 I’m actually a Shopify's partner, not an employee. I’ve already asked on their forums, but the more, the merrier. I’m also hoping to get some perspectives from outside the Shopify ecosystem, since that could give me a fresh angle.

That would be a cart feature, not a template one, wouldn't it?

Cart is a part of the theme. Both the design and functionality of it.
Are you sure? The cart on any e-commerce system is a core function. Within the theme you can change the layout and certain features but you can’t overwrite how it integrates with the core code. If this were possible bad actors could syphon off cash.

Both are true. You can't overwrite the backend functionality but you can enhance it with what is possible to achieve in the front-end. From cart, customers progress to checkout where less customisation is available.
