Which was my original plan and kind of what I have now with IONOS. Why did people suggest having them separate then? Two domains, one for shop and one for website. The issue I have is people are saying Ionos is rubbish and to help keep costs down and have more flexibility with my shop and website I should be using woo commerce and Wordpress.

If you were keeping your website with Ionos, then that may have been a reasonable suggestion. There is absolutely no good reason to keep the website and the shop on separate domains if you're moving away from Ionos.
