Is Shopify better than Prestashop etc?

i was on prestashop...it was ok (ish), but that back end office was intolerably slow...i've since migrated to bigcommerce (i couldn't stand the thought of shopify skimming a percentage of my sales)...no complaints.
There's a couple of tweaks you can do to the backend code of Prestashop to speed it up significantly. Bigcommerce, again, has a monthly fee associated with it which put me off.

Sound rather silly to know the name of shopify but its not fully understood how you find the shops to buy from. Im no technophobe. Can you imagine ebay if all results for it were removed from the internet ? the site would die eventually
I don't think you understand the concept of Shopify. Shopify isn't a website like ebay/amazon with sellers listings being shown on the Shopify website. It is simply a subscription based ecommerce software that allows you to build your own website/online shop.

You will then need to do marketing/ppc/social media, to get your website known, just as you would any other website.

I don't have personal experience of EKM but have had clients who tried them and moved away.

Shopify on the whole works, their API's are powerful to allow a lot of interaction if that's your thing. Liquid is pretty powerful and with Online 2 due out this year that will get even more powerful.

I had to make some really heavy modifications to a client site using a premium theme and was able to get everything needed without too much trouble.

Theme upgrades should be easier moving forward as well.

Can you suggest any good shopify themes ?

But there are fees with self hosting too (ok, typically a bit less), but the fact I don't have to be a geek & worry about all the stuff that goes with self hosting is worth the extra cost to me (& I'm as tight as they come)
