Shopify, Prestashop or what else?

To be perfectly honest, if Wordpress is that poorly built that a FRONT END theme can slow down the backend that has a completely different file system, then that’s good enough reason to give Wordpress a wide birth for me.
That's why I recommend getting an experienced WP developer to at the very least set the site up ready for design and products. Or even just ask questions.

Did you run the pages through Page Speed Insights? The Neve theme would have helped with both.

It's not a question of Page Speed Insights performance.

Whenever I clicked on anything in the back end, there was a noticeable delay of up to half a second before it responded.

In any case, as I said in the other thread, the deal-breaker for me was not the speed, it was the non-intuitiveness of the system.

All I can say is I've tried all sorts of themes over the years and there are none faster, with more features than Neve (free version). With the plugins I use, there is next to zero delay on the backend.

I get that you're not going to use it but other people will read this thread.

there are things I don't find particularly helpful with Prestashop either to be honest, like the way the product id number is part of the URL for everything, be it content pages, categories or the products themselves. That in itself surely doesn't help SEO either.
Yep we find that annoying too and there isn't an easy way to fix that.

Shopify stores are inherently slow loading and very few stores have pages which pass Core Web Vitals.
Yep, speed is massively important in SEO and conversion rates.

    Is Shopify really that slow?

I still need to make a decision about which platform for our main site though so any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
What order management system do you use and does it work with OpenCart?

I've yet to find a Shopify store with pages which consistently pass Core Web Vitals. And the situation is about to get worse for Shopify when INP replaces FID.
I'm not sure what you'd consider good but I've just checked my shopify store with semrush and it scored 925 for site performance with an average page load speed of 0.28 sec.

It is like a muslim trying to convert a christian into being a hindu in here when it comes to ecommerce.

Everyone has their own beloved corner and won't hear a word said against it.

I wonder how many are sitting in mama's basement eating pop tarts whilst pretending to be running successful enterprises ;)

That’s not correct. The posts just question the claims made.

Most of the time it doesn’t matter too much which platform you use. There is no ‘best’, there is just the one you prefer. But each platform has its limitations and if you can live with those then crack on.

Your particular problem isn’t the platform, it’s the way your site has been configured, the content, structure and navigation, poor optimisation and an inefficient AdWords campaign. None of which have anything to do with the platform.
