Hello Everyone !
I am currently selling cosmetic on Ebay & Amazon . Its very rare that out of 200 Listings 10 Products sell . I only get orders on 1 particular listing on every ebay accounts which is around 200gbp per day .
I tried everything good content , ads , revising them but due to competition and unless u run hefty amount of % to ebay , they wont sell even we match the lowest price . Even tried seo friendly title and description .

Due to delays because of royal mail & evri we have to refund customers ! So in short doing no profit no loss as of now .

Thinking to start shopify store and make categories of wig , hair extensions , skin care etc and focus on reels ads promotion via facebook & Insta !

Giving 10-15% to ebay for ads + ebay fees is better than investing on facebook ads .

The items we sell are low amount items , 8gbp to 45gbp max !

Do you thinks its a good idea ? Its my first day here and 1st post ! Just found this amazing platform to meet like minded people !

First, if you are on the big platforms, having your own site makes total sense.

However, why Shopify specifically? What brought you to that choice?

How much will you spend on marketing & promotion? If you think of ebay and amazon fees as marketing costs, will you devote a similar amount to your own website (not saying it is necessary, but you need to ne prepared).

Thanks Paul for your advice .

I am thinking of shopify because i have already made 3-4 shopify stores in the past and generated sales . I have no idea about wordpress ( ik thats cheap ) but is it worth spending time or money on wordpress ? Also no idea of opencart too . Please advice what do you think of same !

Regarding marketing game !

As of now , i have to compete in pricing on ebay because same product is sold by 20-30 other sellers !

So if i start my own store - i can sell a item selling on ebay for 7.99 to 9.99 ( if i make it appealing for the cx , good description , HQ images , videos , reviews !

Ebay i spend around 20-25% on fees + marketing ( thts around 2.5gbp for a sale on 10gbp item )

I can save on ebay fees if i shift to own site , and i assume after pixel is trained for like 10 days cpp will go down ! ( please guide )

How will that change with Shopify? The parcels are still going to be late or go missing...also, do you lose that many parcels with Royal Mail?
Yeah cant be changed agreed , but thing in ebay is some cx who cnt wait for even 48 hours opens case be it weekend or anything ! What happens when case is open with ebay , they will check the tracking and refund automatically to buyer even after 1 day parcel is received .

we send large letter which are delayed mostly or they dont update tracking ! So even after its delivered tracking doesnt work , so some buyers even after receiving opens case and ask for refund :

Please advice

WP is about as easy/hard as Shopify, you just need to learn it.

For £5-10 a month you can get a host and there are far more plugins for WP/WooCommerce than Shopify.

I would guess there are more developers/supporters of WP as well.

If you are more comfortable with Shopify, stay with it. Most startups approach Shopify as if it is some platform that will promote your products/business, not realising it is just a shop builder.

Also anyone here has run facebook / insta reel ads ? I dont have idea about uk market cpp in cosmetic category ! Can anyone advice on this ?

Are you based in the UK and selling cosmetic products within the UK market?

Or are you importing them/selling direct from overseas factories?

If you are outside of the UK, the answers we give you may not work.

Selling cosmetics is incredibly competitive. A shopify store might work but you would have to do a ton or marketing and probably a bucket load of paid adverts.

There are far easier ways to make money.

Profile says they are from India. So it's not clear if their target is Indian or UK customers.

Hi OP. I just saw your post while browsing. If you do test Shopify then treat it as a focused funnel for 1 to 3 validated products with clear positioning rather than a full catalogue store. Otherwise acquisition cost might eat your margin faster than marketplace fees.

Switching platforms focused tiktok + nano-influencers on beauty gadgets. Month 3 gave me £3,5k/mo profit no marketplace fees eating 15%. Kept my £150/day ebay winners but added 4-5 new hits via video testing. So I did the same jump last year from ebay chaos to sellvia mall, similar dropshipping vibe. Same story shipping delays, , refunds killing margins , one hero listing carrying everything
