Van Business Insurance

Hi all, my first post for a while.... Any recommendations for van (business) insurance for light haulage / man & van type cover for a large van? Thanks

You would need vehicle Hire and Reward plus Goods in Transit insurance as a bare minimum, Public Liability on top even better.

Make a few calls and explain what you are planning to do for the best cover available, it will be expensive but you will regret it a lot more if you are not covered.

For instance many clients wish to travel with you, often not covered on standard policies, some policies are aimed at tradespeople, not man in a van or couriers.

If you plan to sub to large companies, most want a minimum level of cover, GIT can often be quoted way too low for items carried as a courier.

I needed some fairly quickly and ended up with a couple of vans on Admiral.

Shit company to deal with but were decent on price. You know that they'd charge for everything though like Ryanair so if you have time, go shopping around well in time.

Thanks... cheapest van business insurance I've found for one large van doing 'Man and Van' work is £970 per year. Not sure if that's steep or cheap!

When you are shopping around you could check out Clark Thomson, please see the link below. They have been successful insurance brokers for many years. If there is a good deal out there, they should be able to find it. They can arrange cover for single vans aswell as fleets.

Impossible for anyone here to answer that. It depends on so many variables that you will have divulged to the insurer but not stated on the forum, such as the age, value and type of vehicle, your age and driving/claims experience, location ....... and a host of other things.

It may be a bargain quote but the important thing is that you have made sure your policy covers "Hire and Reward". That isn't cheap but without it you are, in effect, not insured at all.

£970 is not much for good insurance, but as above there are so many variables.

Be careful though, some policies aimed at couriers are not suitable for most couriers due to prohibited items, aimed to reduce the insurers risk but in reality will make such policies as useful as a chocolate fire guard.

Search the courier forums for some recommendations.
