Selling an ecommerce business

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked a million times - I've recently started an ecom business which has been fortunate enough to grow quite quickly. We're holding some top positions for key search terms in Google and have made a fair amount of money within the first 2 weeks of launching. Simple single product with a low price point of £7.99.

Unfortunately I don't have the time to run it and I'm looking to sell it - does anyone have any advice on where to go to sell? Heard a lot of negative things about Flippa and Empire Flippers.

The performance of a website in just 2 weeks is not a good indicator of the long term financial potential of the site.

If it's making money then why not just get someone to manage it for you?

It's always suspicious when someone wants to sell a site so quickly that's doing so well.

I know it sounds a bit negative but I have spent years buying websites and rarely seen one do well in a couple of weeks. I personally invest in long-term revenue potential.

I think if you sell now you won't get much for it.

Flippa is probably your best option for such a new site.

I think the best way to sell your website is to announce it via social media pages of your company.

Target your ads on entrepreneurs, test creatives, copy

And why would that be? The first order was within 3 days of launching. Social media marketing is a very powerful thing.

I mean, we're about a month and a half in now and it's still making money every single day...

Do most businesses not make money in 2 weeks?
Don't think I've ever set one up that didn't. First business I had it took about 10 days to start making money - that was offline so different costs than ecommerce.

We set up our business with a £6000 loan (3.5 years ago), we repaid the loan in six weeks, out of profits.

I'm assuming you are most likely using Facebook ads. If you are using an actual social media account (with followers) then the website is worthless without it as it depends on that source for traffic.

Yes that is true, but it generates costs. if you sell cheap goods, it can be unprofitable

Depends what the costs are and whether that is factored into pricing.
Get the buyers to pay the business costs.

Our company, bizdaq, helped sell 7 e-comm sites all below 30k in sale value during Jan/Feb (we provide everything needed to help you sell, including 3rd party advertising). Worth a look if you haven't yet made your move.

Regarding value - I wouldn't pitch for anything, let the market decide what it's worth at this level.
