VAT as an educational business (nursery school)

Interesting. Our single biggest expense will be the building we want - ballpark £30k. Also professional fees for surveys and so on are a few £thousand and of course all the actual resources but those are nearly all wholly for education provision.
So in initial set-up there is somewhere between £5-10k VAT which we had initially and perhaps naively assumed we'd get back. If we cannot, that's a quite a big cost so it seems worth looking into options we wouldn't normally bother.

I'm going to talk to an expert but input is always welcome.

Royal Mail Tracked 24/48 Profile Review

What system are you using? Click and Drop or OBA?
I can't seem to work out what codes I should use for Small Parcels in OBA now, since we changed the the barcode unsorted code for our large letters.

We use Click and Drop which is automatically linked to our OBA. When you create an order in click and drop you can select what method (code) to use. If you only have a few orders you can create a shipment 1 by 1 which can be a Pain as you have to enter the address. You can however upload the orders in batches which makes life easier.

Can an employer sack an employee whilst off sick?

As has been said many times on similar threads to this - you need shot of this employee and until you fire her, you are going to be thinking and stressing about this 24/7.

The 'injury at work' is a red herring. Call her bluff and fire her. If she then tries it on, you have all the evidence you need to defend yourself (no incident reported would be where I would start).

She's even been with you less than two years, so you don't have to give a reason (but you may as well, as you have a perfectly legitimate, and well documented, reason).

I promise you, things won't get better until you get rid of her. You've done nothing wrong, you've given her every chance to improve and instead she is playing games. Don't let her affect either your business or your mind. Get rid and move on.

Advertising 2 businesses from 1 website

Why is it a bad idea?

Doesn't hurt us in anyway... so a bit more of an explanation would be beneficial to the OP surely...

The main reason I wouldn't do it is it makes the site difficult for Google to index properly. They will spider the site and find conflicting content. As a result, the site will either rank very poorly, or your Adwords will cost twice as much. Probably both.

Anonymised Data

Transport for London got a bit of a kicking for something just like this. Tracking peoples mobile phones through the tube network using Bluetooth or WiFi. it was deemed that it was an intrusion into privacy.

A large supermarket chain has also investigated using CCTV cameras to track people around stores.

It all comes down to the likelihood that the individual could be identified in future by the store/point of sale. If I go into the store and my mobile is tracked for location and I then visit the till and pay with a debit or credit card, that store can identify me and all my movements. it no longer becomes anonymous.

Web scraping match results

Thank you all of you for your answers ! It helps me a lot !

I just checked the terms of use : it actually doesn't seem to set rules about the portal where the results are displayed; it is more about the use of the forum. Nothing is explicitly written against web scraping/crawling (with those words or equivalent ones at least).

PS : I actually need historical data, that's why I don't use API (probably not free for a such use) and I would be careful with the loading page rate.

Self Employed and Universal Credits

Thanks for your replies, yes I'll be moving onto it in a few months and just trying to prepare myself. I do have to provide monthly statements, and then I receive UC based on those earnings. Obviously I'm hoping to earn too much to even qualify, but that's not going to happen just yet. It's just having to put down my deposit payments for them to possibly be taken away from me at a later date (and I would still get penalised by UC) but I'm not on the understanding that you only submit your profit anyway, and if someone were to take back a deposit at a future date, then for that particular month it would become an expense.
