What WP Page Builder Is Closest To Wix & Shopify

If you were to try to tempt someone to move from Wix or Shopify, what WP/Woo page builder would you say is closest to them?

None of them. They all have totally different ways of creating pages.

Getting used to any WP page builder would be a steep learning curve. Most of them aren't intuitive and need time to get used to. Some of them are far more complicated than most people need and you can end with great looking pages on desktop that just fail on mobile.

But...

Once you get the hang of creating content with blocks you may not need a page builder anymore.

Elementor Pro. Does away with a stack of other plugins. Drag and drop widgets and edit on one page. There is a learning curve but it doesn't have too many limitations. Take a look at some beginners tutorials.

Have you given the plugin to a complete noob and let them loose? I found they struggled with the whole WP infrastructure let alone learning how to use Elementor. A bit of training they were OK but compared to Shopify it's not an easy switch.

With any page builder you can just add a bunch of paragraphs, headings and an image or two. Things that are so simple to do with blocks.

Plenty of my clients edit their own content. Generally, if they need something new or they get stuck, they will call me. But that's not a rule. There are thousands of Elementor tutorials on YouTube.

Have you seen the mess some people make of Shopify & Wix?

I agree, but the thread is about making the switch from wix/shopify to WP/Woo. And that's quite daunting.

Give someone some training in setting up a WP site and adding woo and they will be OK. Add some more training in how to use a page builder and again they will be OK. But dumping them into a fresh install and they will get very lost.

Not really as they are both much simpler to use. But you asked about switch from something they are familiar with to something that is totally now and quite complicated.

Which is why I'd tech them how to use WP blocks. Easier than a page builder.

If they didn't take time to learn or watch and follow tutorials, then I would somewhat agree. But there are literally videos on Youtube by very competent developers that will take you through a complete WP/Elementor website build step by step.

Again, I agree. But @Paul Kelly ICHYB is trying to migrate someone from wix to wp. If you tell them they first need to watch a bunch of videos to work out how to do something as simple as add a paragraph to a new page then the chances of them migrating are slim. But show them how easy blocks are to use and the chances they will give it a go are higher. Especially as there is a block guide built into WP.

As an aside, I dislike video tutorials. I prefer blog posts as I can skim read to the bit I need.

No pain - No gain. There will be a reason @Paul Kelly ICHYB wants to move the site. Not sure what that is yet.

It depends on the reason for the move, you have plenty of options and most have different pros/cons.

Some offer better page loading speeds at the cost of ease of use, others offer a plethora of support and tutorials but are less customizable, and finally, some are easier to use but have lots of code bloat.

No. But I haven’t looked. One could also argue that many sites built using page builders aren’t that good either. Mainly because they just don’t work well on a phone.

And of course stylish is open to wide interpretation. What you consider stylish is going to be different to everyone else. And non-standard design can reduce conversions. People like sites to function in a standard way.

I don’t have an issue with people using page builders, they like to stick with what they know. But wp blocks are improving with every update and you now have whole theme editing.

That's because you know how to use Elementor. I'd find it easier to use blocks. As I said, it all depends on what you are used to using. Someone who has learned to build a site using wix or shopify would struggle with anything WP without tuition.

The problem @Paul Kelly ICHYB has is convincing someone to give up their familiar wix way of doing things and start all over again with WP. I'm not sure it's an easy sell.

That's because you know how to use Elementor. I'd find it easier to use blocks.

We're not talking about you or I building sites.

The advantages of using Elementor far outweigh using Blocks. And Elementor is a lot closer to Shopify & Wix page builders. Blocks has a long way to go before it even comes close to Elementor.

I do not have a specific need, just wanted to see what, if anything, could easily be compared....

I have to say that more templates are coming with 30/40/50 site designs available to upload and adjust, so maybe that's the direction to take?

I find people struggle with Elementor Pro. It might be the layout, not sure. I'd say Brizy is probably the closest. But template is probably the best option to go download + tutorial videos.
