Catcher in the Rye - a book I actually requested for Christmas!

I'm about a third of the way though and I have an inching feeling that it's going somewhere.

I saw that advertised in the Independent. Is it any good?

Very, very funny. It's divided into sections from A-Z and every one has some unique way of looking at the subject.

The Mayor of Castorbridge - Thomas Hardy,
Don't Wake Me at Doyles - can't remember who wrote it.
Number One Ladies Detective Agency - again can't remember author
Dr Zhivago Boris Pasternak.

Yes, I do read that many books at once. If you can follow the plot of four TV soap operas you can read four books.

I liked Catcher in the Rye - nothing like I was expecting though.

You could do with a good plumber! If I wasn't too far away, I'd offer to fix it for you.

Just finished reading 'The Cameo Conspiracy'. Excellent!!

I have just finished reading Jackdaws by Ken Follett and I have never read such a good book in ages.
I am now reading The Partner by John Grisham and that is turning out to be a great read too!

I've just started re-reading "My life in Advertising" by Claude Hopkins and have been reading bits and pieces of "Seven Ages of Paris" which is a history book about that city.

Other top reads. Not Chick Lit.

Shadow of the Wind - about a book seller in Barcelona

The Kite Runner - about Afghanistan, extremely good, you learn to love the place and are horrified at the same time.

Salem Falls by Jodi Piccoult - all of hers are very good, although the subject matter is not always to everyone's taste (this one's about being wrongly accused of assault, witchcraft, witchhunt).

Bought the kite runner for my husband for Christmas, good to hear it's a good read.

I covered Vlad the Impaler in the October issue of my magazine. I was quite drawn in by his history. I would like to also read more on him, what's the book called and by who UKSBC?

hi chris,

it is by MJ Trow. i have only just started it and it is a tricky read but i like studying people like this and have never really covered Vlad

also, you mentioned you are reading The Partner, i really enjoyed that one. should be one of the Grishams that gets made into a film, would make a good one

It is a really good read. I'm at the part where Patrick meets the Judge in hospital. I am guessing there is a lot of twists at the end and a big surprise to finish the book off. I hate it when books are like that, I can never wait until I finish it so I read the last few pages to find out what happens. I know I know that spoils it but I'm like a child and cannot control my urges lol

Cheers
