Website Font - straw poll

Hi All,

at some point I will get a new website designed but I would just like to have your opinions re website font and size.

I find Tahoma in blue the easiest to read because my long vision is not too good (down to age and years of doing quite fine, close up work. )

What do you think?

Tahoma in blue on what background and what size?

Blue is basically a bad idea as it is the default colour for links.

I think that I will be using a white background. If blue is not a good idea is it best just to stick with black?

I guess a lot of it depends on the style and design of the rest of your website. You want it be consistent and fitting.

But it's important to remember that your site should be accessible... not necessarily what's best for you, but what's best for the masses. Our company website is extremely pretty, but difficult to read for some because the font is a light grey.

I'm sure one of the web guys on here would be able to advise on accessibility best practices when it comes to fonts and colours.

Yes blue is a v.bad idea, ideally you should be looking at consulting a professional if your planning on anything other than black on white for your text.

For accessibility just be certain that it is big enough to read (this will depend on the font used) and that all the styling is done using external CSS that can be turned off (or augmented) by the person browsing.

Tahoma is a good "WEB" font, as is Verdana, Arial and Trebuchet "Trebuchet MS"

Palatino Linotype is nice for headings.
