Hello, I need a website and obviously a good listing on google searches. I know next to nothing about web development so will need to hire someone to design and publish the website. This will only be two or three pages long, the business is more of a lifestyle business so I am not after anything too fancy or expensive!
What is the best way to find a web developer? How much do you think a two or three pages website could cost?

Cost depends on the business, the target, your marketing plan and so much more.

If you want to rank well on Google you may need many more pages and continual updates.

What you need is evidence and examples. You need to see a portfolio of websites built by the designer/developer and you need proof that those sites rank well in search (not just for the business name). There's a lot more to look out for as well but above all is their ability to communicate.

The price range @fisicx showed above could be entirely accurate but you don't need to pay a top-end price for what you are describing.

Oh hell no! Good designers/developers don't need to advertise. They give advice to people on forums

Write up your specification. List all the things you want the site to do. Provide examples of sites that already do what you want. Don't worry about the look of your site - the key part is to get the content created.

But...

You can't do that until you have written your marketing plan. The site content is a development of the marketing plan.

You're not saving money if nobody is finding you. How many lost enquiries while the OP is working out how to get found? And if somebody does find them, will they convert to an enquiry?

Hi kaos, I may be able to help with the website design and publication. For a simple 2–3 page lifestyle business website, I’d suggest keeping the scope clear and agreeing on the domain, hosting, SEO setup and total cost before starting.

What type of business are you launching, and are you targeting local customers?

They want to rank well on Google for a lifestyle business. A DIY site is unlikely achieve this. It will certainly need more than 2-3 pages.
