Ways to monetise a site?

Hi - I am thinking of creating a site which offers people content, such as forums/blogs/news sites all do (basically anything which isn't e-commerce).

Anyway, I know there is the conventional way of making money - through ads, but what else? If I got a big enough mailing list, I could also place ads on a monthly newsletter or something - but that seems extremely distant right now.

How else could I monetise my site? Thanks?

P.s. I have googled it - the ideas all look a bit tenuous so hopefully yours are better :)

Until you have massive traffic and PR, go with adsense and relevant CPA offers.

As the traffic grows, start looking for ad partners who fit the niche perfectly.

If you're not capturing leads and building a list, you've thrown away the gold mine and only kept the shaft....

I use the following methods:

- Adsense
- Kontera
- Affiliate Links

But mailing lists can be beneficial too.

Sorry, what are/is Kontera and Affiliate links?

I read somewhere that once you put adsense on your site, that's the only thing you can have (they don't like other ads) - is this just a myth or what? Thanks.

Hi iTopz,

This is Jonathan from Kontera. We are one of the ad platforms that are compatible with AdSense. Because Kontera's editorial alignment advertising displays a completely different area of a webpage from AdSense, there's no conflict and most Kontera publishers use both together to optimize their earnings.

Agree will earlier post

Adsense
Affiliate product
Create your own electronic product

Adsense is getting much harder so I would go for 2nd and 3rd choice.

There is not any particular way to monetize. There is many website which they are providing Adsense services you can take and generate lots of revenue. But for this your website should have good amount of traffic. quality content and lots of things.

Adsense is good but you can make more if you find a decent affiliate program that's related to your website's content and create some exceptional promotional material for your website, linking to the product.
