Hi I just joined the forum last week, and after reading a post earlier today I just wanted to check if real newbies and part timers like me are welcome.

I'm just starting up a small, back bedroom website selling new baby gifts (and yes I am a newish mum). I've been made welcome via the introduction page etc, but I just wanted to check if us amateurs are wanted here.

I'm hoping to get advice, but I can also offer help through feedback from a non techy consumer point of view, and also with some market research issues where relevant (10 years experience).

Let me know what you think

Becky

you are most welcome, part of the beauty of this forum is the diversity of the membership whilst still retaining a general business theme

Yes, yes, yes. UKBF is for every business person no matter what size of business you have or even if your business is still at the ideas stage.

Hi

I post here from time to time, but read the forum quite a lot.

I am still really at the ideas stage, although I am currently working full steam ahead on a project of mine, along side trying to build up a client base in my field (IT).

Good luck

Darren

I understand how you may feel that way, unfortunately we have had a spate of newcomers who were just self promoting and not really making any attempt to be part of the forum, they would post an AD and then dissapear, with UKBF growing popularity it is inevitable that this would happen.

That said you are welcome as a genuine member.

More people that joint the better, big or small, we love them all :D

Glad you joined Becky, more girlies the better, we need to catch up to the mens total.

I still class myself as an amateur Becky and my art business is just part time while I hold down a full time job to pay the bills.

Theres lots of people like us here and I think thats what makes it such a great place as the mix is brilliant.

Dear Becky,

Welcome... I've just joined in too and feel very welcome here. I know how it feel to be an amateur as I'm still working on my business idea. Even, my website still in my designer hard drive.

Anyway, I'm in business targeting fathers with young children. Hope that we can work together in future.

I might take up your offer - need someone to advise me about Market Research.

BTW, how old is your little one? I'm waiting for my second one who is due in few weeks time.

Regards,
Faizi

Hi Becky,

Of course you're welcome.

All businesses start off small, don't they? And I'm sure there's plenty of established businesses represented here that began life in a back bedroom.

Enjoy :)

David.

Hi Becky,
Sometimes it can be 'overwhelming' joining any new 'community'. UKBF is one such 'community' running solidly with a dozen or so 'core' members and supported by 100's of other regulars, whether members or not. Sometimes we can be unconsciously guilty of seeming to be 'clichey' because of the joviality between some of us and also, more to your interest, we can be highly disturbed by those who blatantly set out to abuse the ethics of the forum to promote alleged scams and other self-interest 'business opportunities' that are truly not a business proposition. Perhaps as you work through some of the threads you will see to what I am referring. One such is a 'scammers' thread I posted today.

It is a shame that persons of your professional calibre are affected by some of this banter and it makes me mindful to exercise a little (very little  ) more care within my postings.

I do hope you treasure your moments with this forum and also hope it will be as rewarding and enjoyable for you as it is/has been for me.

Cheers, Nigel

Hi Becky, welcome to the forum. I am fairly new on here too (not quite a newbie, but a nearly-newbie  )

I'm still at the stage where I feel as if I take quite a bit more than I give (to the forum), but everyone on here has been helpful and friendly, with very few exceptions.

I'm very curious to find out which post you were referring to earlier, so am off to investigate (after desperate housewives has finished :D )

Good luck with your business, your website looks great by the way :D

Hi Becky

Don't be scared off. Nigel and Tom aren't as bad as they seem! Well ok, perhaps they are, but you'll find we have our very own Nora Batty aka Jayne who sorts them out!

Honestly, you will be made welcome

Nigel can be scary, in fact it took me a long while before I wore him down, made him buy a painting and am now able to realise that he's really a big softy!

I cant really give a lot to the forum and do take quite a bit, but I hope that my friendly banter keeps the community spirit alive.

Thanks for your posts everyone! I'm thoroughly reassured that even complete novices like me can take part. Please don't tone down anything!!!

It does seem like a fantastic forum, and very friendly, so I'm really glad to be involved.

Cheers

Hi Becky, I think everyone is welcome if they are genuine, and you seem to be just that so you have no problems!

I like your website, btw, I looked at Actinic express the day after it was launched but wasn't sure about it as they had no real live websites to show as it was so new! How did you find using it?

Good luck with your business!

Hiya

Yeah actinic express so far has been really good - there are some problems with it, as with any template but soooooo quick and easy.

Will let you know how it goes once I'm actually properly set up and getting orders!!
