VAT registered business

Hi

Is it possible to set up another sole trader business with a slight name change in order to avoid the VAT compulsory registration of the 'original' business..is this acceptable in the eyes of the revenue?

As I understand it, as a sole trader, you are effectively VAT registered not the business so this wouldn't work.

Works with transferring the business to a partnership or limited company provided the business is not a taxable person at the time of transfer as a going concern.

Splitting the business is risky and asking for trouble from hmrc especially where the businesses are co-dependent.

dont do it you will be asking for trouble. as already mentioned you the person are registered for VAT so it will not work.
