UKBF Charity Auction

WOW, this is great, thanks everyone for such generous thoughts.

I have mentioned this to Sift so we need to wait a bit for them to reply, need to make sure it is really doable and we are not getting into hot water in any way.

My thoughts on the charity is maybe just one or two, nominated by us members, so a poll would be good. Who knows, if its a success it could possibly be an annual event with different charities each time.

Lets wait for Sift to reply and then perhaps we could ask for suggestions for a poll.

OK, here's what we're going to offer:

The auction winner will be entitled to an online store, based on oscommerce. Our graphic designer will create a custom design for you, and we'll also set it up to work with any one payment provider (Paypal/protx etc). We'll also throw in two contributions installed free of charge.

Furthermore, I have spoken to my business partner who runs YSH.co.uk and they have agreed to host this store for one year free of charge. Terms for hosting are here.

Let's hope this thing kicks off!

Count me in. What a brilliant idea, no idea what I could contribute but would certainly bid and try to think of something I could contribute to the auction.

When do we start????

I will donate the wife,on condition we have a reserve of at least 50p.

seriously a childrens dolls house.

No good offering me SEO services as everyone knows I am crap :(

Lovely idea, I would like to be involved, I can think of a few things which may be of interest, a pamper session (facial or massage) in our therapy room, afternoon tea and scones in one of the film sets for Miss Potter and some hand made green cleaning goodies to take home.

Hi Ray - wow talking to you, the legend that is RayB - I would dearly like to thank but..........it would appear that everybody but me can thank, what did I do? I mean, sincerely thanks, I genuinely want to be involved and all is good but I don't have the thanks button, seriously, I don't, I can quote, even multiple quote, but heaven knows I cannot thank. Hey, typical, perhaps that is the wrong in my life????

Hiya gill the thanks button is only visible when logged on....i didnt realise that till yesterday cause i kept wondering what everyone was talking about. But when your logged on at the bottom right hand side of everyones reply is a quote button, a multiquote button, a quick reply button and then a big thanks buttons.....hth's

ps if you have just posted it doesnt show the thanks button on your reply....just an edit and a few of the other buttons i mentioned so you will need to scroll up to the last reply to see a thanks button

Anyway,

So we have ourselves a "UKBF Charity auction".

Oh, I forgot to ask if this could be a sticky, but in the meantime please keep your ideas coming.

Will probably sort out a Poll very soon to decide on which charity or charities the money we raise goes to and in the meantime please feel free to shamelessly "bump" this thread to keep it in view.

Haven't really thought about what I would donate, but will get my thinking cap on.

I'm not sure how you will pick the charities, but my vote would go to Hayles own charity or www.jolibatrust.org.uk - I know they are not UK, but they provide a sterling service in a needy area.

When the timescale is sorted, I will make the time to get something together.

I'd like to suggest Parkinson's Disease Society as an option.

My Grandad had Parkinsons. He was diagnosed with it a few years before I was born, and so even my earliest memories of him include some of the effects of the illness. By the time he died, when I was 17, it had pretty much complete control of him; he couldn't do much at all for himself.

Currently, there is no cure for Parkinson's. It is caused by the depletion of dopamine-producing brain cells, but it is not currently known what causes this depletion in Parkinson's sufferers. It's not even known if it is hereditary.

Great to see this thread sticky.....i have been having another wee think about charities...i dont have anyone in particular that i would like money to be donated to...i thought i did but since researching charities i find that there are may worthy ones out there. The ones that appeal to me because I have had experience of them are cancer, strokes , i also would like to donate to children less fortunate either through poverty or ill health.

Hi All

Please could anyone who wants to suggest their choice of Charity here, then we can collate them all and put the most popular into a poll to find which one(s) to donate to.

Those of you who have already mentioned a charity, thank you, these will be taken into consideration as well.

It might be an idea to also think about the obscure ones, i.e. the ones that don't get much publicity, what do you think?

Thanks again for all the lovely offers of services and products, with all those goodies we should have a really good auction.

Will keep you posted as to what, where, when and how as soon as I know more.

Hi, I would like to nominate the National Autistic Society, having worked closely with Autistic kiddies for many years.
Bet it's going to be so hard to choose - support you fully in what you are doing!:)

I know a lot of people have understandably suggested it should be a UK based charity, but I also vote for Hayles, because she has done great work which we can "touch and feel" through this forum and her blog.

But perhaps we could support several charities to accommodate this?

Any UK childrens charity would also get my vote

No religious affiliations - non negotiable

Adult - we will be doing a lot of work for kids with our latest business, so charities aimed at supporting adults would be preferred but not essential

I think I would go with supporting Hayles Benin charity as we would feel more personaly involved and hopefully get some feedback via Hayles.

almost be like we had adopted our own charity.

I know there are so many deserving charities in the UK but it remains a fact that 1 child dies every 3 seconds in Africa.from preventabl;e causes.

and it would sem to me that the most benifit for any money would be in this area.

Just another thought - instead a selecting a charity or charities though a democratic poll (which by definition cannot please everybody) I have an alternative idea to consider.

Why not let each contributor nominate a charity of their choice - which is clearly stated against the auction item.

That way, we get to support more charities, and both the donator and bidder get a choice over what they are supporting?

Just a thought..............

i had thought that but what if other people dont like your chosen charity....they might not bid on your product or service.....i still think a poll might be better but if there is no clear winner then what about just splitting all the proceeds equally between the individual named charities so that they all benefit a little :)

I've already suggested my choice of charity, but wanted to add that I would also be very happy if the Benin Christian Support was chosen, as having read Hayles' blog, I can see what worthwhile work they are doing.

:eek: Sorry but there is no way I could support a charity auction that will give money to send people out to Evangelise to Africans. They need ecomonic help, not religion.

As this is the UK business forum shouldn't we be supporting UK ased charities?

Air ambulances
Life guards
McMillan nurses

In the UK we never know when we will need these services but are bloody thankful they are there when we do need them.

religious organisation do not go out to evangelise africans....the give real help with food, clothes and vaccines....it just so happens that they are religious people who also teach basic reading, writing, and religion....which i dont see anything wrong with

i am quite happy to support what ever charity is chosen....as previously said as it is a UK forum it would be nice to support a UK charity be it run by a church or not!....my preferences though are still cancer, stroke or young under privilege or sick children
