I've been on twitter for a while - however, similarly, initially, was a little confused as to what the objective was. Since tweeting for some months now - I have found some great contacts - and it's a fab forum for finding likeminded individuals. I wrote a blog post How I am using Twitter by a relatively new Twitterer - and you may find this useful in explaining the how and why - and applying some tactics to make it useful for you. So take a look. Also - if you type Twitter into the thread search on UKBF - you'll find heaps of advice - and a whole list of people to follow who are also on UKBF. As others say - stick with it - if my understanding is correct - with the introduction of 'Caffeine - (google back end) then the way search engines are searching for data now also gathers info from tweets and other social media platforms - so it's all exposure...
