Hi, I have a business. with a different trading name to the limited company name. I need to change the trading name. Can a company use two trading names? I read that there are complications, but I could not find anything complicated.

One is a decorating company trading name, and the other is generic (for say cleaning etc).

I would eventually have two websites.

I did put a note on my website (Trading name of xxxxxxxx limited)

You can have as many trading names (trading styles) as you like! - So long as you state something along the lines of 'Bodgit Floggitt and Runne is a trading style of Cannycatchme ltd' or 'Cannycatchme ltd T/A Bodgit Floggitt and Runne' - Something similar is true of you're a sole trader.

Yes, You can have more trading names. Nothing complicated as long as you display it. HMRC may need to know about it (not sure). If the real question is whether you can have more websites under the same ltd. then the answer is certainly YES.
For example if I make a Zoltan Lange ltd.
I will be able to trade under the name of Zoltan Lange consulting or Zoltan Lange mentoring or Zoltan Lange car valeting, whatever. I can make as many websites, designs, branding as I want. All of them will be filed to the HMRC under one company and account.
Only my accountant might wouldn't like that :)

You have to tell HMRC all the names you trader under if you are a sole trader. Not sure about as a Ltd Co. HMRC essentially wants to know your trading names so that they can make checks on the income you declare to them. Having multiple trading names but only declaring one name to HMRC is a is a tax evader's charter.
